I’m wondering if anyone has ever used epsom salt on their horse’s legs as a kind of bath. If you have, do you feel that it helped relax their muscles or reduce inflammation? What are all of the benefits you can get out of using epsom salt?
I use it as a soak for hoof abscesses. I can’t see using it on lower legs as there’s no mileage in soaking tendons in hot water. You want them cold if anything. Realize there are no muscles below the knee or hock.
Horses don’t have any muscles below the knee or hock.
Are you talking about a circulating leg soak? If so, magnesium does get absorbed through skin, so can affect the whole body. How much? No idea.
I use Epsom salts as a soak for abcess.
For lower legs I use something like vetrolin, bigeloil or just plain Wintergreen alcohol.
The rubbing action of your hands does more for the circulation than just slapping product on.
As above… though I’ve heard of benefits from soaking in ocean/salt water…
