Epsom Salt Poultice

Can’t find any of this available for sale any more. It used to be called “Ozmo Paste”. Same stuff also called “Poulti-paste”. Latest jar called “Epsom Salt Poultice”. It’s all much the same stuff… green grainy slime, a mixture of Epsom Salt, glycerin, and wintergreen, and I don’t know what else, but those are the basic ingredients. And I need some, and I can’t find any. Googled it, and looked at Greenhawk, and in some local tack stores. Does anyone know if this stuff is still available? Somewhere? Or do I have to try to mix it up for myself? If I’d known that it was going to disappear, I would have bought more jars of it a few years ago.

Why not just make a paste with Epsom salt and water?

I saw some in tractor supply the other day? Have you checked there?

I believe TSC carries it…

but… you can make your own paste. If packing for a hoof abscess I make a paste out of epsom salt, providone iodine and a splash of dmso.

It seems in stock everywhere?

OP is in Canada. Most of those links are for companies that don’t ship to Canada. I wonder if her being Canadian is the issue.

Perhaps that is the issue, thanks for the suggestion. That would explain it. Yes, I guess I will have to take a stab at mixing up my own stuff. Thanks for the input, my ability to search stuff out using technology is limited, due to my being a dinosaur.

If you need the poultice for a hoof abscess, consider using an Animalintex poultice instead. It’s not messy and because it’s white, when you change it you can see if the abscess has started to drain.

Agree, we use Animalintex pads with good success for our horses and cats.

Keep in mind that it doesn’t take tooooo long for Epsom salt to pull so much moisture out of the foot that you get a really hard foot. So, don’t use it as a hoof poultice for an abscess for long.

Another vote for Animalintex pads! They were fantastic last time my guy had an abscess.

Epsom salts + furazin ointment works well.
Animalintex pads are great too…just more $$$!
