Equation Saddle?

I purchased an Equation Canterbury. I have seen/read HORRENDOUS things about George Guillockson. I don’t know how to or even if I should contact regarding fitting. I’m wondering about the quality of the saddle, what people have ridden them in, and what you liked or didn’t like about them. Because of the price point, I bought one sight unseen in a 17.5. I would have preferred an 18(I rode a county fusion 17.5 and felt like it was a bit tight) but this seemed to have a more open seat. I liked the idea of the adjustable stirrup bars. I bought a medium narrow, as my horse measured between a m/n in county. The tree is supposedly adjustable. Either way, finding out information is tough, so I’m looking for firsthand info

When I was a child, my mother used to say “Don’t believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see.” This good advice has served me well throughout my life.
I have never met George Gullickson, however, his son Chris is a perfectly nice fellow, an excellent fitter, has a nice way with customers, and I can’t say enough good things about him.

Yes, maybe contact Chris. He once drove to IA from WI just to deliver a saddle so my friend would have it for a show. He comes here a couple times a year and does a great job.

From what I know, George Gullikson is quirky, but has the best interest of the horse at heart. The saddles are made for him by Frank Baines, who only makes really nice saddles! So the quality of leather and construction is bound to be good. For flocking, any independent fitter should be able to handle the job. If you have more particular concerns, any Frank Baines dealer should be able to help.

Thank you both! I will see if I can get a hold of Chris. Does anyone have contact info? Thank you!

@sortofbyx - I’m looking at buying a canterbury equation - did you end up liking yours? The one I’m considering has air panels which isn’t ideal but im just leasing at the moment so may be nice that its somewhat adjustable…
Its hard to find any details on these saddles and even harder to come up with a price. The person who is selling doesnt know what to ask for it - its not in the best shape, leather is cracked on the seat but its comfortable and i like the adjustable stirrup bars, etc. and fits my current lease horse.
