Equi-fit wither shield, Anybody using this?

Anyone have experience with the Equi-fit wither shield? I have a pony with shark-fin withers and was wondering if this might help. My concerns are that at 12.2 it might be too big and also that it may cause MORE pressure as it’s a solid unit and there is no channel or hole to take the pressure off the area. I’ve sewn foam pads into his sheets and light turnout, but his heavier blankets need something and they are too heavy for our sewing machine. Thanks.

Bumping.

I’ll help you bump! I’m curious, too!

I’m also curious about the chest shield if anyone has used that.

I have a friend who has the chest shield. She likes it.

I am not familiar with the product.
Are you wanting to use it solely for blanketing? Or for U/S too?

Back in the Day, we used crocheted wither pads (in barn colors :sunglasses:) between saddle pad & horse.
Long oblongs you folded in half to pad withers.

For a blanket I imagine you could use velcro to attach to a blanket so it could be removed & washed.

Under the blanket. It’s a square fleece pad that’s foam filled and you place half of it under the blanket positioned over the withers and then flip the other half over the top and it’s supposed to stay put. It looks like if might be just the thing for my old timer. I suppose if it’s too big I could return it.
Does velcro come in heavy duty stick-on? I could devise some pads to stick onto his blanket if that’s the case. That would be easy and I could position them in the exact spots he needs it.

Don’t know about heavy-duty Velcro, but a fabric store could probably tell you.
Maybe a hardware store?

What you described is exactly how we used the crocheted pads.
Wonder if some oldtimer H/J rider invented the new thingy

Oh wow. Now I’m curious too. I have one horse who no matter what blanket brand I try, always ends with the blanket falling back and pulling taut across his withers. So consider this a bump too.

I’ve mentioned this before, but with hard to fit horses I have often added an extra chest strap above the existing ones to get the neck to fit. I just hand sew using thin webbing straps (easy to get a needle through) and one of these:

It works a treat.

I have an update. I purchased one and it seems well made and it fits under Oatie’s blankets. He’s only 12.2 so it’s a bit long and the end hits him in a funny spot, just where his back starts to rise toward s his hip loin area. I’m afraid it might rub there, but it’s easy to pull forward and with his other blankets I think it with hit in different areas hopefully if won’t be an issue.
