Equi-Trek Vision Horse Box

I just ordered a equi-trek vision horse box😁. Now I wait for it to be built and ship.

I was surprised with how affordable it was for something you have to import.

I had looked looked at a used eurovan DiBella currently has on their lot and even put an offer on it. I did decide not to purchase even though it was a nice van. Buying new from L&D Trailers is ending up being the same price.

Define “affordable”? I have long been puzzled why horse boxes in Europe can be in the “even a regular human can afford one” range, but here they are for the luxury market only. Could that be starting to change?

Only $81k plus options lololol

Which is an amazing price when you consider it is both a truck and a trailer! My SUV I haul with costs more than that. I am looking to replace it and my trailer which had me looking at north of $130 combined. I am seriously considering one!!

That $81k includes the import/custom fees. As far as the options they have, you can put a lot of them in yourself way cheaper, like the camera in the horse area.

Ford offers a $2-3,000 rebate on the vehicle which I will get once I take possession.

Did they guarantee that rebate will still be available?

L&D told me they were maybe, hoping, they could get a Vision in November. I don’t think there’s any way to lock incentives for that long.

They aren’t sure about the rebate with the way things have been lately but they haven’t heard Ford is stopping it either.

The vision is scheduled to be made during the 3rd quarter of the year with my approximate delivery date of 12/15/22.

$80k is pretty standard here for a horsebox. Whereas a lower-end starter model in the UK is around £35k, which at today’s rates is around $46,000. That is more in the realm of what I would consider affordable but of course everyone’s version of affordable is very different. I do love that more people are buying them because if enough people like you step up and show that there is a market here in the US, eventually (I hope) the prices will come down. I do love them.

A starter model Equitrek BP trailer in the UK is ÂŁ8770, suitable for small 4x4 and some cars. That is do-able for many people.

The bumper pull models here are similarly reasonable. I investigated a day treka and it was about $23k USD including import.

That is the cost of the cheapest truck you can find here in the US to pull a trailer. Truck prices have sky rocketed. Even trailer prices have gone way up.

You use to be able to get good deals on used but the prices have gone way up on them too. What I have been finding in the way used lately is not worth the price.

I sold my truck and trailer a few years before I bought my current horse. At the time I had retired my horse due to all his health issues and really didn’t see myself getting another let alone showing.

I don’t know, I ordered a brand new F-250 a couple of months ago for about $65K. If I had left off some of the bells and whistles I could have knocked at least $10K off of the price. Not cheap by any means but you definitely don’t need to drop $80K for a towing vehicle.

I ordered a RAM 1500 last year and to get all the trailer-related safety features I wanted, I had to go with a Limited due to the chip shortage. $72k.

My F250 was $48k in 2018, there’s an identical one on the lot 3 miles away for $52k, brand new 2022. All tow features, dual batteries, gas engine, super cab.

No, but then buy the trailer new as well and you’re quickly at or above the price of the horse box.

Also, my car, truck, trailer, first trailer, and first truck were all total combined WELL under $65K so price is relative to income

Sure is. I did order a new Equitrek bumper pull and I plan to pull it with a 2017 v8 Durango, which was $56k new but certainly not worth that now (bought it used two years ago when everyone was selling their cars due to covid closures)

However I could buy the same thing today for the same $56k price with 0% for 72 months and the new trailer and still be under $81k, plus able to drive the vehicle the rest of the time that I’m not hauling.

For me a horse box didn’t make sense even though I do covet them when I see all the Stephex vans zipping around Wellington.

Sure, but you’re not the OP

I guess I don’t get knocking someone for their choice of a horse box over a BP or poking them for spending more than you would have (or could have afforded).

I think her choice is pretty cool and I’d love to take a tour of it when it gets here!

As I said, cool for the OP. I investigated ordering one. I was simply disagreeing with the statement that they’re a great value because you need an $80k vehicle to tow with anyway. It sounds like you were disagreeing with that as well.

Other comments in the thread are “that’s less than my SUV!” I don’t think most people are driving around in an $80k SUV on the regular.

All the shopping for trucks are me have high price tags even for used. That’s if you can find something.

Then to add a trailer it just was a better deal for me to go this way

I’m not a rich person, just smart with my money. My mortgage is lower than most people’s monthly board. I’m lucky to board at place that doesn’t cost an arm & leg with excellent care.

I know a lot of people don’t like spending a huge chunk of money at once. I never drove my truck when I had it except to pull the trailer. I don’t have a need for a truck other than that.

Prices have changed. I bought my new 2016 F-250 for $34k (work truck) and my new BP for $22k 2 years ago. My mechanic told me that the truck is now worth $55k! So you’re not wrong about things skyrocketing.

I think you will love your horsebox and I do hope you’ll come back and update us with pictures and more information about what it’s like to drive and own when you finally get it. I have long coveted a horsebox and hope one day to get one.
