Equiband v. Knockoff

I figured it would be the same as starting them in the Pessoa type thing. Baby steps lol

Equicore I believe has info on it, possibly their website. Start in super tiny sessions of walk so they don’t get sore & so they can get used to feeling the bands while moving!

I’ve had the bungee band version for just about a year now. I got a high wither pad with my kit, since my appendix has a bit of a TB sharkfin.

I initially got it to help keep my aging (19 this year) gelding’s topline in good shape. I LOVE it, have seen significant results, and it will always have a place in my horse tool kit from now on.

The saddle pad and bands from bungee band are great quality. When cleaned up, they look new. I really like the pad I got - I use it even if I’m not using the bands.

I made my own with tarp clips, some rope, and a roll of the extra strength knock of theraband stuff from Amazon. Cost was about $50 for enough materials to make 6 sets.

What do you find better about the ProSix? I got an Equiband system last year but have barely used it because the straps are just so fiddly, and adjusting them is hard since my dominant hand is only half-functional. Does the Pro Six stay put once you have the straps set?

That was part of my problem with the Equiband - I just couldn’t get it right. And, that it required more ā€˜tacking up’ to use made it harder for me to be motivated.

I prefer the ProSix as it is a complete system working front to back. Slip it on, adjust it once (honestly I didn’t even adjust it, it just fit fine), then pull on/off as you need in just a few minutes. It does stay put.

I have not tried to use it to ride, and I’ve started very slowly … only 5 minutes the first time and I hand-walked. Up to about 15 minutes now, 2-3 times per week, and sometimes I use it in lieu of riding, sometimes before/after.

Thank you for this! I’m waiting on vet opinion whether it’s even worth trying to build up my mare’s strength over the winter (she is old and has a lot of wear and tear on seriously terrible leg conformation.) I’d also want to sell the Equiband system first. But it seems like the ProSix could help, if she’s able to be helped.
