Equiband v. Knockoff

I used to own the Equicore Equiband system when I was rehabbing my (now-retired) gelding. I foolishly sold it when I had to retire my gelding. Now I am kicking myself, as I think it would be helpful in bringing along my young gelding.

I’m trying to decide if I bite the bullet and re-purchase the Equicore Equiband system, or if one of the more affordable knock-offs will do?

Anyone have any experience/thoughts on this?

I bought a knock-off and it’s been just fine! I’m trying to find the one I bought, but it was definitely worth saving a little bit of money.

Good to know! I know the UK has the Performance Veterinary Physiotherapy BungeeBand version, and I think there was one more company out there, but I can’t remember the name.

@Tha_Ridge If you can, let me know what one you bought. I’d love some real life feedback on an alternate version.

I have the Equicore version and I like it a lot as I feel that their quality is great, especially how they’ve attached the buckles to the saddle pad!

Both the Performance Veterinary Physiotherapy bands and the BungeeBand seem just fine, however, I went with purchasing the original Equiband due to its resale value.

OK, went back through my emails! Here’s the one I got: https://equinefitnesssystem.com/. No complaints!

Not trying to hijack however, I’ve been curious about these.

Would one of these help engage the hind end without so much nagging to the ‘lazy’ horse?

Has anyone gotten the sew your own kit from PAP in the UK? I am just not a fan of the Equicore saddle pad itself. The bands themselves are quite good.

Yep!

Not the sew your own kit, but Bum Building Bands | Hannah B Eventing (UK based) has a few different options for pads, including Premier Equine, whose pads I personally adore: https://www.bumbuildingbands.com/product-page/gp-jump

If she had the bands in the premier pad with sheepskin I would be all over that. And I already own an equiband but I also don’t love the pad.

I have used the Equicore system with a lot of success. The whole system is made of quality materials and their customer service has been excellent when I needed to replace a buckle or purchase new bands. It works great in aiding hind end and core strength when used properly. Anyone not seeing great results is likely not using properly.

Happy to sell mine to anyone who wants it … I’ve moved on to the Eagle ProSix.

I bought the BungeeBand sew your own kit yesterday. I’ll update once it’s in. I have a sturdy but ugly pad that I won at a show this summer so I’ll either try to hand sew myself or I’ll have someone else do it.

I’m sending my 12yo A/O Hunter to my parent’s farm for the winter. He gets immunotherapy for allergies that manifest as respiratory issues, but the dust in the indoor still triggers some coughing so he can just have a few months off while I focus on my young mare.
My parents are about an hour away and they don’t have an indoor. I’ll probably only be able to ride him in the snow a few times/month. Hoping that my mom can walk him up and down the hilly driveway with the bands on a few times/wk to keep his core strength up. Maybe lunge him with them if the footing is ok.

@starsandsun has anybody taken you up on this? I’m interested depending on size, price, and condition. PM me if you like.

@theresak I sent @starsandsun a PM. I’m interested pending Size and Price.

What I like about the Thermatex ProCore is that, unlike some other brands, you don’t cut the band once it’s adjusted to size so it can be readjusted easily for the next horse without having to buy new bands. If you google it you’ll find some reviews and videos. I have a few in stock at my store.
There’s a review at this page if you scroll down to August 31, I think it’s the 21st entry down. http://hcsusa.blogspot.com/

I also basically only use the sheepskin PE pads. She also does a “supply your own pad” option, so I bet if you contacted her she might be able to make something work…

I ordered one of these. The saddle pad looks decent.

How do you start using one of these? How many days per week etc to start?

Slowly and very short sessions. I was very surprised at how quickly my generally fit hunter worked up a sweat and was huffing and puffing at the walk the first day. :joy:
