Equine Influenza at WEC

Barn K. NOT EHV. But how long did they wait to tell anyone?? https://worldequestriancenter.com/important-announcement-from-world-equestrian-center-ocala-fl/?fbclid=IwAR19KqjO3XjvVZ29sMp07FUXfdxm-JqWP2jxtQmgz6IJ6REoiNE2ZD5mDYs

As our vet used to say, “horses found with temperatures”?

Hopefully so, or they are dead. :scream_cat:

—“World Equestrian Center management would like to report negative test results for Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) on February 8th for horses stabled in Barn K at the WEC show grounds. Earlier in the week horses were presented with temperatures, stabling restrictions were enforced, and tests were immediately administered. The results were negative for EHV, but positive for Equine Influenza, a very common respiratory condition this time of year. These horses have been removed from the WEC show grounds. None have elevated temperatures. For further information, refer to the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) Equine Influenza Factsheet.”—

they jumped on it because of the EHV event last year that they handled less-than-stellarly, and the EHV event at HITS a few years ago where exposed horses were allowed to leave and go back to their home barns…

And of course constructing a valid and clear statement is not always accomplished… for the want of one word (“elevated”, perhaps)…

According to an email I got from USEF, there are three cases of EHV1 at “Desert International Horse Park” in CA.
