Equine insurance WITHOUT mortality coverage

Does anyone know of a carrier that offers major medical ONLY? My current insurance company doesn’t do MM without mortality, and I would ideally like to have medical coverage only

I think that’s pretty standard for the industry. I don’t know of any companies that provide medical without mortality. But maybe someone will know of one!

It is definitely standard, just crossing my fingers someone knows something I don’t before I re-up for another year :grimacing:

ASPCA Equine Insurance is just major medical without mortality. Very affordable too. I’ve had very good experiences with them.

Interesting! I’ll look into that, thanks

I also have the ASPCA insurance!

I just looked into it and ASPCA doesn’t offer the horse coverage in my state. Dang :frowning:

They do cover my state, and I like that they have an annual deductible. The deductible for my current plan is per claim

Edit: I decided to go with ASPCA - very affordable, even when choosing the lowest deducible and highest annual limit. I decided to skip the “illnesses” inclusion since a lot of that wasn’t covered with my previous plan anyway. Glad I made this post!

Just jumping in here to say THANK YOU. Very affordable and will cover colic and accidental injury which is what I really need.

Of course! They’ve been great to work with overall. Having my Craigslist amish rescue pony covered with $10k of major medical insurance allowed us to say Yes to colic surgery for him this past December. Had the $10k in my bank account within 5 days of submitting the claim.

I’ve also used it for medical colics needing hospitalized at the vet school, stitches, a suspensory injury with PRP injections, a ear issue that had to go to the vet school, etc. They’ve been a lifesaver, literally.

Thank YOU!! So much for the intel on this insurance option. Does anyone know if ulcers confirmed with scope is covered ?

This is interesting. I had never heard of this coverage. May be a dumb question, but why are there states that they cannot cover? Has anyone ever contacted them and requested their state be added?

Yes if you get the “illness” coverage, ulcers are covered. There is an age limit however.

If you have a claim, is it then excluded forever? I seem to remember that from back when.

Thank you!!!

I had a horse with a major medical hospitalized colic they covered in April 2019. His policy renewed in October. He had another major medical hospitalized colic in December (same exact type, euthanized after 6 days of hospitalization unfortunately), and they paid for that one too.

I’m interested to see if they renew my policy/continue to cover colic on my pony after his colic surgery.

Mine policy is up for renewal in May. I just looked things over and it doesn’t look like I have an illness option. I wonder if that is state dependent. I have accident and colic coverage; no claims to date.
