I’ve been looking for that elusive sane and sound horse and have responded to a few ads on the usual equine sales sites. Not even getting a message back. The horses aren’t listed as sold. Calling doesn’t help.
Anyone one else experience this? Thx.

What are you looking for?
The horses may be under offer or they have someone interested, so they just ignore you and plan to follow up if it falls through. Then they don’t have to explain why a prospective buyer passed.
Or they have too many messages, or have made a snap judgement about you on the basis of your message.
I think sellers are inundated with inquiries and horses are still selling quite quickly. On more than one occasion last year a youngster I was interested in was under contract before the breeder could reply to me. Some breeders have taken the time to reach out with a status update and some have not responded at all. I know which ones I prefer to give my business to in the future. Individual sellers understandably have even less reason to follow up if they feel their horse is as good as sold. The only advice I have is to call the seller directly when possible. I get the impression inquiries via email are voluminous and considered less serious, which is annoying since it’s nice to have a written response for reference.
It took me over two years of looking and I ended up buying sight unseen for the first time ever as the horse was on the opposite coast. His ad came up on Warmbloods for sale, and I called the day it was posted.
I absolutely love the horse, so just keep trying!
Thanks everyone!
I’ll be starting my youngster in the Spring but would like something to ride in the meantime. Not looking for fancy or even “trained dressage”. But I would like something that is quiet that my hubby can have fun on and maybe my nieces. I’m looking for a horse with good character, quiet and 15.2 or taller.
I’ve been contacting rescues within driving distance and none currently have a rideable rescue.
I’ve put feelers out to also find a horse that is ready for retirement from show but can still be ridden at home. I know that is a bit of a reach though.
We have our own farm so the horse would have a forever home.
Private message me! I have several that can work.
I’m looking for a sound, sane horse (no big breeding needed - I’ve got a youngster that fits that bills), 15.2 to 17 HH. Doesn’t need to be highly trained, just a solid citizen. I’m open to an older horse. Thx!
If you have tried reaching out to people on Dreamhorse I have found the sellers there are the worst for responding! No idea why as I have had two nice sales through there and only seriously interested parties not the hundreds of Facebook tire kickers.
Same! I searched for 18 months and bought sight unseen. It’s crazy out there.
