Equine Tribute to WWI

Just wanted to share a couple pics of what my mare and I got up to yesterday, because I’m proud as punch of her.

Some of you may or may not know, the 25th of April is ANZAC Day here in Australia/NZ. I suppose it’s kind of an equivalent of your Veterans Day. It’s a fairly solemn affair here. Most people attend a remembrance service of some sort in the morning.

A local lady organised a group of riders to march down the main st of the local village in tribute to the Light Horse Regiment, which has pretty strong historical significance here. We had 22 riders show up, and several hundred people from the community lined the street for it! My mare and I were picked to lead the group, and she couldn’t have done a better job.

Very nice! She looks beautiful! Is that a poppy garland?

A plastic one lol, she’d probably try and eat a real one but yes poppies. Very significant for Anzac Day here, and also the reason for us all wearing red shirts.

She is actually 13.2hh of god knows what  If I could clone her brain though, I would. She has her quirks (don’t they all), but she has such a sensible mind.

Thanks Annie! I rather think so too.

Beautiful pictures, @sweetsalute. And very poignant, with the poppies and the flags… Congratulations to you and your lovely mare. Thank you for posting the pictures and for telling us about your tribute ride. Well done all.
