Equinity vs Tri Amino

Vet suggested adding amino acids to the old man’s gruel to see if it might help regain some muscle tone. He is a paper thin OTTB with ok weight but not a lot of muscle. He is blind and retired so he just kinda hangs out, meanders around with his wifey. Since he is ok health wise, vet suggested trying either Tri Amino or Equinety to see if adding AAs would help a little. Neither of us have our hopes up but I am willing to try. Since there’s a HUGE difference between the two, I am wondering which is better? Cost wise Tri Amino is cheaper and I have used it in the past on other horses but they were working, he isn’t. I didn’t see much of a difference when I used it before as I wasn’t sure if it was the Tri Amino or the workout that helped.
Equinity has more AAs than Tri Amino and I know people who swear by it but it could just be really pricey kool aid that I don’t know enough about.
So please share your experiences with Equinity and if it was/is better than Tri Amino.

Have not tried it for my horses, but the gal who does massage on my boys swears by Equinity. Full disclosure, she also sells the stuff. (She has several barrel racing horses and seems to be rather suceesful with them for what it’s worth. I could imagine AAs help with muscle recovery after a run.)

Will be curios to follow to see others experiences. I had not heard of the product until she brought it up last week.

Equinety might have more AAs, but 1) the AAs which really matter the most, as in, the ones most likely to be most deficient, are in small amounts, and 2) most of the AAs in it are not ones that horses are typically deficient in.

Use T-A or Nutramino. 10gm lysine vs 1.25, and 5gm methioinine vs 0. That’s what almost all horses need, if they need some AA support.

Deja vu…didn’t we JUST have this thread?

https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/horse-care/9839915-equinety-vs-tri-amino-or-both

We did! And fortunately/unfortunately I bought into it before I saw the thread. I have already been feeding tri-amino to my 3, and curiosity got the better of me. There have been a lot of positive reviews, maybe they are sellers touting it. I certainly am not one, so I’ll see if in fact there is anything to this “miracle” product now that I have it. 5 days in so far…

I just did the 30 day challenge for Equinety. A local RMT also swears by it and is used by a bunch of local dressage pros.

I always have my horse on a protein supplement so switched it up.

eh. Not any better than your typical protein supplement. I even took before/after photos 1 month apart to compare.

anyways that’s my experience.

I’m a huge Tri-Amino fan. Not sure I am drinking the Equinity kool aid yet. Perhaps if I see more COTH people have good results but the facebook testimonials don’t do anything for me.

You could also get bulk unsweetened whey protein powder, and add that to the gruel you mentioned, along with the Tri Amino, for an extra BCAA (branched chain amino acid) boost. I do not know the dosage amount to feed, but maybe someone on here does?

I’m a big tri amino fan. Saw a big difference in my TB’s muscling.

Haven’t tried Tri-Amino but I started my horse on Equinity after a trainer friend touted it at a wonder supplement for joints and brain. Said it was the only thing that quieted her somewhat stalliony guy. I was having similar problems and figured it’s only money so what the heck. It really did work. I stopped it over the winter and this spring noticed that we were back to being wild. Actually dear husband said, did you re-start the wonder supplement? I did, and horse settled back to normal. It’s expensive but it really does seem to work. I’d like to try the Tri-Amino though if it’s cheaper. See if it is just as effective.

I noticed a difference in 3 weeks. I remember looking at my guy and thinking, how did he get so beefy!
