Equitation horses and drugs

Once again - - the latest digital COTH has yet another plea for Ace. This time for Equitation horses. A bit hard to stomach this quest for horsemanship while
Rolex is on but worth the read. I real “love” the idea that trainers love their horses and ride them all night. Alternate universe once again.

can you post a link to the article?

What an extremely disappointing commentary by a horsewoman I had regarded highly.

Some of us have no idea what you are talking about. Link? A few important quotes from article with author’s name? Anything?

latest edition of COTH has an article by Kip Rosenthal on Ace for Eq horses. I will see if I can link it but usually have zero luck. Maybe Comingback has the ability.

I got a look at the article in the preview since iTunes isn’t letting me purchase for some weird reason. I don’t know if it makes me angry, desperately sad or both.

I do know, I now understand why GM essentially walked away from hunters and equitation.

There is a great deal of talk in the article about all the things done to make the horse ‘opinionless’ so that the rider’s competitiveness isn’t affected by the horse. Sweet merciful god, its a RIDER test, for which part of the test is to communicate with and ride in conjunction with the horse’s opinions. Its not a test of mechanical aptitude or each ‘rider’ would be tested on the same model dirt bike …

Opinionless … I feel ill. I actually feel ill. I’ve never before read an article like that and been physically nauseous.

+1

I don’t know what to say. I’m feeling everything that’s been mentioned above - sad, angry…

I strongly disagreed with Ernie Oare’s article, and I strongly disagree with this one as well. And I feel a little sick. And stunned.

Wow.

Edited to add: the whole reason Kip and I switched my mare to the jumpers was BECAUSE of the standard in the hunters/equitation of wanting the horses to be robots… and the solution was to find something else to do. Not to drug. This is so… I don’t know what to say.

They do have those mechanical horses now that simulate jumping (and dressage.) I guess we could just use one of those if we want to take the horse out of the equation.

As with the hunters, the ONLY way I could support this is if the medication list was announced for judges and spectators to hear as on entering the ring and the information included on the judges entry list.

Then, we could ALL make informed choices, including which judges the clean competitors would bother to show under, whether the fancy eq horse was worth all that money, who did we want to compete with and who really had a program we could live with.

Opinionless … god.

I still say, suspend the horses, also!

Is this an article that you have to subscribe to COTH to read? Still no links?

Unfortunately, there are many (uneducated) clients out there who assume it is the horse that must adjust. They usually feel this way because they have spent rather large sums of money on it.

Otherwise yeah. Haven’t read it yet but this seems like it might be a hard one to swallow.

Would love a link if possible…it sounds awful. Opinionless? Really???

Read this in the print version also, also don’t know how to link. Same song, second verse. This is why I do dressage, when I would love to be riding some little jumps with my good young horse.
He is not a piece of athletic equipment to be “adjusted” with drugs. What a strange concept of sport…

Isn’t that what a great equitation round is about? The ability to ride a horse that goes like a machine? The ability to show off your fancy position riding a perfectly schooled, heavily longed or sedated horse?

Can anyone link screen shots or anything of the article?

You’re asking if someone can post a link to a screen shot of copyrighted material from the Chronicle? You’re asking on the Chronicle’s own BB?? Really?!?

Can anyone confirm the date/page number for this article? I’m pretty sure I have the latest edition but I can’t find it.
