Has anybody tried this supplement? https://www.equitop-myoplast.co.uk/contact-us/ I know you can get it in Canada through the vets office. My main concern is not trying anything that may cause gastric upset.
Looking at their ingredients, I am not sure how this would differ from any other TriAmino type supplement, such as the Three Aminos from Herbs for Horses.
What do you mean by gastric upset, what are you trying to avoid, and have you had bad experiences in the past using the 3 essential amino acids?
What has set him off in the past? I don’t know if the three amino acids are a problem for gastric ulcers or not. Off the top of my head I wouldn’t see why. However you should ask your vet that has been treating the horse.
I would say if a horse has sensitive digestion, and is doing OK now, why risk adding anything? What is it you want the triamino blend to do? Is horse notably lacking in topline? What else have you tried to build muscle?
If his muscling is good then you don’t need any triamino supplement.
My horse uses it at shows (at half the recommended dose) …we first used it after he lost all of his muscle and top line after serious ulcers that required monthly vet scopes for over a year! It was the internal specialist that looked after Sullivan that suggested it…it worked, very very well! It did not bother his stomach at all, but he will forever live on omeprazole! Now I only use it at multi week shows as once he gained back all his muscle and energy this supplement gave him TOO much energy! He’s already reactive and energetic and we found one he was back to full health, it just made him crazy!
No idea…I just assumed that once he built the muscle, top line and energy back up he just didn’t require the supplement every day anymore LOL. But, overall I believe the protein is hugely beneficial…I still find it helps at multi week shows, I start him on it the day before we leave and find he doesn’t get tired like many of them do after a few days, and week 2 he’s still raring to go!
edited to add…he is a picky eater, but these little green beads he will suck right up!
No my horse is a bit overweight And his top line is a bit thick. He had a bit of stress in his history which lead to ulcers but I have eliminated all stress, eliminated grain other than vitamin mineral supplements and use a slow feeder. I was interested in this supplement because he has arthritis in right front coffin joint. I don’t believe in oral supplements much but it would be nice if one of them was truly benifical. I had heard of that glucosamine can aggravate the horses stomach so have stayed away from that.
I don’t see why you would be thinking of feeding a tri amino supplement in this case.
You should be looking at things that address joint issues.
Actually the most reliable information on joint issues suggests that most of the feed through joint supplements have little effect. Some people recommend MSM.
You might just want to do a bit of self education on the contents and effects of various supplements. Honestly there are only so many different ingredients out there, and very few supplements are unique
It’s not a mattter of “believing” in oral supplements or not. It’s a matter of finding out what ingredients are useful for what purpose.
Amino acids are protein building blocks, Human weightlifters also take them. If the horse has a lack of muscle, and is lacking in protetin, then extra amino acids can help build muscle. They don’t do anything for athritis. Otherwise all us people with osteo arthritis would be taking whey powder. We aren’t cause it doesn’t help.
If a horse or human has a nutritional lack that is causing an observable problem, then feeding that component can help solve the problem (vitamins, minerals, proteins, calories).
Ok, I couldn’t find comprehensive ingredient list for Equitop, was going on the general information I linked to above that said it had the 3 limiting amino acids. What was it spirulina was meant to do again? I know we’ve discussed it on COTH.
Oh just looked it up. Spirulina is a protein source. That makes sense.
