Equivalent to QuickBraid?

What can I find in the grocery store or dollar store that would be the equivalent of Quick Braid. I don’t have time to order it and have to braid on Tuesday. I will have to wash my horse first as he is a grey and has a whole winter of dirt on him. I don’t want his braids to fall apart so am looking for a product that will help them stick.

Washing the mane will make it harder to braid but hair gel and water in a spray bottle is easy and cheap and effective.

Mousse maybe or some flat iron spray.

I have found that it isn’t the washing, but the conditioning that makes it difficult to braid. That said, for show baths I will wash the mane and tail with regular Vetrolin shampoo and condition the tail only.

For the OP, I am have typically just used water in a pinch. May half hairspray (from a pump bottle) half water?

Add an inch or two of water to the empty QuicBraid bottle, shake well and it will work in a pinch; not as grippy as the real stuff, but free and easy till you can get more.

Dippity Do or any other human hair gel that you’d use to make one’s hair sculpt or set up stiffly. Mix a 50/50 amount with water in a spray bottle. Works like a charm and a lot cheaper than Quic Braid!

Any “texture spray” from whatever store brand will work. I like the Not Your Mother’s dry texture spray, available at target for $6.

Half water, half hair spray works just as well as Quick Braid.

If you want REALLY sticky, this gel is your best bet. It’s about $3 a bottle, and you can find it everywhere. Be careful with other gels, they can actually make the hair slippery at first.

Honestly, just use water. Quick Braid and gels/sprays just make the hair sticky, which I know in theory is what you want, but actually doesn’t look that good. I have been drilled by many professional braiders that plain water is the ONLY thing to use when braiding. Water allows you to get the braids really tight, which is what makes a good braid.

Don’t put any conditioner in the mane either when you are bathing. Dirty hair in general is easier to braid than clean hair, but as long as you don’t use conditioner or anything like that you should be okay.

If anything, use a bit of hair spray to control “fly aways” after the braids are done, but don’t apply to the hair while braiding.

Agree with the others, water is the best thing to use.

You can also buy cheap hairspray and spray a bunch on. It’s super sticky, I think that I actually prefer it to QuicBraid.
