skydy, I think you missed my point. I posted: You cannot help a person who does not want to be helped.
I understand that is true.
Or he paid a third-rate forger to provide the documents.
Quite possibly the same person faked some records associated with the horses at the center of the legal disputes.
Iâm just speculating. Nothing would surprise me at this point, including EL being too cheap to pay someone who knows how to produce paperwork that will withstand even superficial scrutiny.
Pity is the right word, thank you.
@Renn_aissance I am very sorry for your terrible loss and for the trauma it caused you.
I can understand why you might empathise with Lamaze.
But he was an addict before/during?/after his time with Hickstead, and unfortunately addicts do use events, circumstances, and the actions of others to justify and rationalize their actions. It continues to be part of the cycle of being a âvictimâ.
As for having access to therapy? He had access to doctors around the world. We have no idea if he was having psychiatric counseling or treatment, but FWIW psychiatric care is covered by universal healthcare in Canada. Therapists are not, but with the amount of money he had, no doubt they were/are accessible to him.
But speaking generally (I do not know Lamaze nor am I an expert) but from what I understand, and speaking from experience of a family member who was also an alcoholic, narcissists generally do not seek psychiatric help - they donât believe anything is wrong with them, it is everyone elseâs fault.
this is well said. very nicely sums up how I feel as well.
We all have life experiences that forges and colours our world views. Mine is an up close and personal with addiction and the refusal to seek help. I know that refusal comes more from a place of inherent inability then it does just a laissez-faire attitude. While I find his acts to be contemptuous, Renn_aissance nailed it for me - I canât feel contempt for the person who thought they were the right decisions, for whatever reason.
And that is all the philosophizing I will be doing regarding the fallen hero who is Eric Lamaze. Maybe some good will come from it, somewhere.
I wonder if he has kids. I thought I read that he has a daughter, but googling shows no results and thereâs no mention of family on his wiki page. If he does I hope theyâre not dramatically impacted by all of this.
thatâs honestly what it looked like - just literally 0 mention except for some off the wall âanswerâ chat where random people said he was married in 2004 or 2014, but even googling âdoes Eric Lamaze have kidsâ brought up nothing.
Unless he truly doesnât have them, in which case, phew.
I think someone like him can really only be married to themselves and his lies are his babies.
It was certainly thoughtful of him to add one more brick in the wall towards getting horses removed from the Olympics.
Another hard core addict?
That is unequivocally true. Unfortunately what is also true is that addiction can have such a strong hold on some peopleâs body chemistry that accepting that they need and actively seeking help is simply not enough to break the addiction permanently.
I have no idea if this does or does not apply to EL, but itâs a sad truth about addiction and the brain. Thereâs just no one size fits all answer.
Itâs also worth pointing out that those people, while being exceptionally damaging to themselves, loved ones and friends generally do not get themselves in this much legal trouble.
Yes, although I donât remember hearing about them having any children. I seem to recall they were not married for very long, although I wonât swear to the details.
Megan Johnstone. As a junior she won an eq. final (I think the Maclay?) and had some fabulous hunters. She went on to be a member of the USET.
I donât think they were married for very long. No real surprise there.
Maclay, USET West, Washington in 1995, 1993, and 1992, respectively.

I remember seeing her show at (old) Indio and Flintridge way back when.
Yes, he was, but considering she was commenting on his personality in a very recent article, it sounds like that isnât the situation.
I grew up peripherally around these circles. I remember her showing in the eq and starting in the grand prix classes, and at the time she was dating McLain Ward.
The source of the money is Bechtel; the companyâs current revenues are $21B and change.
Actually, recipients in the USA are offered all sorts of options. A kidney from a Hep+, HIV or addiction patient is WAY better than dialysis.
Canât wait for the EL movie to come out.
Cocaine, Cancer, Kidneys, Crappy Horses,âŠ
Needs sex, money, infidelities.

When you distill it down to the basic elements like this⊠itâs just so bad.
Someone said it earlier, but that decision to do a riderless memorial to Hickstead was nothing short of prescient.
Re: the kidney situation ⊠I have no idea what the truth is in ELâs case, but his claims medically make no sense.
Kidney transplants arenât used to cure kidney âinfectionsâ like he claimed to have. Theyâre done in cases when the kidneys arenât doing their job of filtering waste and maintaining normal homeostasis of electrolytes and stuff in the blood, aka kidney failure. Nobody is going to transplant a kidney into someone with an active infection, because receiving a transplant requires lifelong immunosuppression and that infection is then likely to kill the patient. And people with kidney failure can live for years on dialysis ⊠they donât have to choose between black market kidneys, experimental prototypes, or death.
Furthermore, kidney failure isnât some medical mystery that is difficult to figure out ⊠it literally shows up on the most basic of bloodwork.
The guy seems to be completely FOS.
Yes. Sounds like itâs a matter of âcocaine nose.â A well known example is Artie Lang.
A well known example in the UK is Danniella Westbrook, it impacted her upper jaw too and thereâs not a lot they can do now, theyâve tried to rebuild her every which way but thereâs nothing solid left to drill into.
Sheâs 49 years old.
