Eric Lamaze Submits Forged Medical Documents to Court

This was my favorite part of the article …

In January 2023 Equestrian Canada announced it would not renew Lamaze’s one-year contract when it expired at the end of that month.

The press release said Lamaze has been battling brain cancer since 2017 and quoted another Equestrian Canada official saying “[w]ith his improved health, we look forward to seeing him back in the saddle and continuing his coaching.”

His improved health = now we know that he faked brain cancer.

You can’t make this stuff up.

He must have had quite the serious cocaine addiction, to test positive more than once when he knew he was going to the Olympics.

Maybe he figured he could just talk his way out of it. And in fact, it sounds like he did. More than once. Which really boggles my mind.

It really is. The FEI is weird.

The Australian rider who was to ride in the Tokyo Olympics, but shortly after arrival, tested positive for cocaine, and was sent home, thus depriving Aus of a team in that discipline. But why would he do that ??? He said it was his birthday. :expressionless: :smirk:

I think that when judgment that bad is at play, it’s not a surprise to find that someone has a history of escaping consequences.

How many years has it been since Andy Kocher was given a ten year ban for shocking horses with electric spurs?

The fact that he will be allowed back at all, makes a mockery of USEF’s and the FEI’s claim to prioritize horse welfare.

I don’t understand how he would be allowed to continue competing and coaching.
What am I missing?

He can’t compete. He’s suspended by the FEI.

When he was released from his contract with EC he wasn’t suspended by anyone yet if memory serves.

And I thought USEF was bad. EC really dropped the ball.

He’s actually STILL currently illegally coaching in Switzerland - and although his bank accounts are supposed to be frozen as he owes so much people so much money - pros are still willing to work with him . He’s still coaching and doing sales. I know that for a fact.

So business as usual, eh? :expressionless:

I imagine he is very affordable right now…but sometimes it seems people like to side with the “Black Sheep” - it makes them edgy or something…and to be fair he was a liar, a cheat and a con man, but he was not (or not accused of being) abusive to people or horses (unless I missed something),

Well aside from selling an undisclosed nerved horse to a jumping home …

and now they have Millar who is a verbally abusive bully. Hard to believe he hasn’t been reported yet.

It was a huge story back then in Canadian media…he was a big come back kid when he won gold. It was pushed that he was just a kid on a bad path who made mistakes and he changed his ways. Was very inspirational at the time.

Now we know the truth, just a criminal drug addict living his life as selfishly as possible.

That’s too bad. Fewer people who have overcome addiction will be given another chance by the public, because of his behavior.

I’m disappointed to learn this. Unfortunately I’ve experienced my share of those, not willing to overlook that crap any more.

It’s pretty well known in Canadian horse circles that he’s not a very pleasant individual. He’s been great for Canadian equestrian PR - a lot of non-equestrians know his name and his nickname of “Captain Canada” but ugh yuck.

it annoys me to no end he has this name!! He’s made more kids cry than the Grinch.
