No I don’t that’s why I put the laughing face ahhah It would be cool though.
Ah yes. Someone did this to me once. It was a similar position (the job description was not insane like this one, but I’d have to relocate, the job market was competitive at the time for my skill set, and they did not post their own salary range). I had no problem putting a salary range, mostly because 1) the market was pretty clear about my value at the time 2) I wasn’t relocating for anything less than perfect and 3) I knew it was more than what they wanted to pay me.
Ultimately, they offered me the job…at a salary outside my range (guess which end they were outside). I told them they had known what my salary range was from the beginning and they shouldn’t have moved forward with the interview process if they weren’t willing to pay in that range. A quickly amended offer letter landed on my desk in record time. That process aside, it’s actually been a fabulous organization to work for and I’ve really enjoyed it. But it was helpful to learn early to be firm with them. And I still don’t think it’s a good business practice.
I laughed so hard at this, it’s so true.
I don’t think he is that stupid or desperate.
Maybe work for Canada instead? lol
We don’t even have a job description
We are probably looking for the equivalent of a Walmart greeter for the Canadians
Along with all the other fun demands in that job description, this one sticks out:
“Prepared to work outside normal working hours”
That sounds like more than just the typical “you might have a loaded week or two every once and a while when we are really crunching.” More of a “be prepared for long, demanding hours to be the norm.”
Not much of an ask, right?
The committee members are quite the demanding bunch aren’t they? They believe that what was working wasn’t working well enough, so they’ll form a committee to fix what is not broken?
I hope that this want ad is specifically targeted to a person that they already have in mind, as people here have speculated.
If it isn’t, the committee are spitting in the wind and honestly, they look quite foolish for putting out such demands in that job description.
Eventing , in MHO was no where near the debacle that “The Powers That Be” have created by letting Duvander and Jeni Autry go at this time. If there was some terribly important reason that they needed to be let go, then the issue should have been aired, politely and succinctly.
The manner in which the USEF has handled this (IMHO) is dumb, dumb, dumb, and does not bode well for the future of U.S. Eventing.
Edited to clarify.
I wonder to what extent money was involved. Maybe the PTB suddenly decided that they were spending far too much and wanted to downsize. Perhaps there was talk of negotiating for raises by Duvander and the rest and they (PTB) headed it off by getting rid of everyone.
I’ve been trying to just stay out of this because I don’t like to get involved in speculation but I do really want to correct this notion:
“The committee members are quite the demanding bunch aren’t they? They believe that what was working wasn’t working well enough, so they’ll form a committee to fix what is not broken?”
I have first hand knowledge that this is absolutely not true. At least one of the task force members is very upset that Duvander and Autry were sacked. The committee is more of a quick patch up to the unrest that was caused by the firing.
I’m sorry. That was poorly written by me.
While I do believe the job description that the committee came up with is a very demanding ask, I should have written that USEF formed a committee to fix what didn’t appear to be broken.
Yes. The USEF hastily formed a committee after they received tons of backlash when they lit the entire program on fire because one small group complained. I have some hope after seeing what names are on the task force. Not all of them supported the decision, and quite a few have very good and objective perspectives. Hopefully they can come up with something creative that works for the USA.
I don’t think the committee came up with that job description. This is Jenni Autry’s old job, a USEF managerial job, not Duvander’s. My understanding was the committee was formed to figure out WTF to do in the interim and going forward as they are trying to figure things out and have no leadership on any level.
I could be totally wrong on that.
ETA: @skydy I apologize because I totally see what you are saying after a moment to process and reread. The COTH article says one of their tasks was to update what I assumed to mean Duvander’s job description, but maybe they had a hand in this one too?
Texarkana is on the right track. Moroney has stated that they want to go more in the direction of SJ and Dressage and have program advisors, not coaches. I don’t think they want to replace Duvander. It seems like they want to blow out Autry’s old job. More clarification in this article.
But no one saw the Duvander non-renewal coming, so it’s all really up in the air. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out, but riders are going to need to take a lot of personal responsibility this year.
Well now I’m confused, too.
I assumed USEF was replacing Autry then USEF & task force were deciding what to do with Duvander’s position.
But now I don’t know what they are doing. (I think I’m in good company because I’m not so sure they do, either)
I edited my post, but left in the part that you quoted, for continuity.
That was a very odd and confusing communication back in early December from Moroney and it’s no less confusing now.
It would be nice to have a straightforward explanation instead of listening to Moroney talk in circles. It’s really not too much to ask.
I can believe this, they are certainly some people who are involved with the sport, but are they people who know what it takes to make a sport survive in the current climate? Are they people who have experience building and leading teams? I legitimately do not know and the information was not given.
This is where I wonder what the actual plan is?
Only time will tell. But I was mainly getting at the point that they didn’t pick a ton of “yes” people or the people that forced the non-renewal which gives a glimmer of hope. I don’t think there is an “actual plan” which is why it is so confusing. I think riders are just going to need to suck it up and make their own plans to get to WEG this year without support of the organization. Hopefully they can get a workable structure set over the next year, and we can take that for a test run to the PanAms and ultimately Paris.
Gotcha. I wonder what these peoples roles actually are. This is all very interesting. Sadly I am not that optimistic about this situation. I am however excited to see Leslie Law on there, because I think he has some good knowledge of how things work. Also Max Corcoran, because she is adamant about making horsemanship and horse welfare a big priority. So yay for that.
