Eskadron Climatex polos -- for a pony

I’m actually an eventer/dressage rider, but it seems the h/j crowd uses the eskadron stuff quite a bit.

I’ve been reading rave reviews of the eskadron climatex polo wraps, though have also heard accounts of making sure you get them wrapped properly so they aren’t lumpy, etc.

I’m a pretty good wrapper (if I do say so myself!) but my mount is now a 13.1h pony. These seem to come in only the one size. Is it feasible to shorten the climatex portion? Obviously this doesn’t solve the other half but I imagine the climatex part is the thicker half.

Anyone used these on a shorter legged mount?

The availability of pony sized stuff… sucks.

I personally did not like using these wraps, they are currently stuffed away in a bin somewhere… I felt they did not wrap smoothly and even after getting used to how to wrap them so everything ends up where it should was a pain in the butt, and this was on a horse. So I would imagine that they wouldn’t be very good on a pony. I’m also not sure that the Climatex would hold up to being cut, unless you re-sewed the cut end so it doesn’t fray.

I do really like my Horze brand wraps, they are the fleece polo with the elastic wrap for the top. Similar to the Eskadron, but with the fleece it wraps much more even. I am not sure if they make these in pony size, but you could cut the fleece.

I love them a lot! But I don’t use them for exercise that often; I use them for lay-up, if the horse is in the stall - they’re great for the 12 on/12 off protocol for standard stable bandages. I don’t love leaving stable bandages on 24/7 so do 12hrs of the stable bandages and 12hrs of the Eskadron wraps.

Their uses for me are infinite; I’ve used them for a knee wrap/brace, hock wraps, to hold iced peas/corn on a limb, after a poultice… They’re actually fantastic for poulticing etc. I love them. To me they were worth what I paid; my only quibble with them is that the climatex’s liner will wear through after a year or so of use, but that’s to be expected since it’s so thin. I’m also not using it per manufacturer’s direction so that might be why mine haven’t aged very gracefully.

They’re super versatile, but they are just right for my 17h TB. So I cannot imagine they’d fit out the box for a little nugget like your pony. You could totally cut the climatex off, but you’d have to stitch/close the cut off end otherwise the interior foam would come out.

I do use them occasionally for rides if we are doing serious cavaletti work. I have not had an issue with lumpiness, but I am an OCD pony-club grad and wrapping for me is like second nature. I imagine for someone who does not have a lot of wrapping experience they’d be ungainly but they are no problem for me.

They do come in 2 sizes. The smaller ones are fine on my 14hh chunky wee fellow

Where did you find the other size? I was even looking at the eskadron/pikeur website with no luck…

Thank you all for the feedback, I want these but don’t want a pricy experiment as far as size.
