Essential K versus Buckeye Grow N' Win?

Hi everyone,

I currently have my 13 yr old mare on essential K by tribute. It is a top dresser for Tribute grain, but I have not noticed any significant difference in the past two years I have had her on it (moderate-high workload, dressage horse). The protein for EK is 24% and Buckeye is 32% with only a .05% increase in the sugar/starch area. My question is if it would be bad to feed a tribute grain and a buckeye top dress?

Essential K is a ration/diet balancer, like GNW. It can be used to top-dress a regular feed that isn’t fed at the recommended amount. But they are also made to be fed standalone to horses who don’t need significant calories.

How much of which Tribute feed are you feeding?

The answer to your direct question is no, it doesn’t matter which balancer you use to add to a regular grain, as a general statement. But the devil is in the details.

Why are you feeding a ration balancer on top of a “grain?” Are you feeding the “grain” as directed?
