Just sending good thoughts to everyone dealing with the effects of Eunice and Dudley. Hoping you and your animals stay safe and there’s not too much property damage. Fingers crossed for the weekend. Take care, everyone!
Same!
My local (US) news stations somehow missed reporting on either storm.
I finally saw the after effects last night on a PBS station.
I regularly watch a fluff show - Escape to the Country - that features house hunting in the UK.
To see the locations I’ve only seen in the best light in such stressful weather was eye-opening.
We are a windy country. It wasn’t too bad: trees down, power off, roads closed, rail cancelled but it only lasted a day and, thank heavens, only three people were killed because of Eunice.
We are right by the sea and have a HUGE tree in the front garden so I was sweating it out. Just lots of rain and some hail but the trees are still standing! Crossing fingers for this weekend. We were told it could be white but, so far, just wet. Really wet.
It’s the wind that’s scary!
And now we have Franklin blasting through, three named storms in one week is a first for the British Isles.
Stay safe!
I was just coming on to say, here’s Franklin. You must be joking. 3 in a row?!
Power outages beginning already.
These storm names are awful. Who wants to get nailed by a storm named Dudley?
Thank you!! I keep thinking, really? My beloved tree is going to get taken out by Dudley?
The idea is that a storm with a name gets more attention from the public and people then take precautions. The names are from Met Eireann.
Oh, we know that. We were just hoping for something better than ‘Dudley’.
Eunice was a puzzle to most of the UK!
Our area was hit hardest with power faults. Hope everyone’s keeping well and will get power restored ASAP.
We have a local tv station that started naming winter storms long ago - before the national weather service started. They have stubbornly stuck to their names! The rationale is that they only name storms that affect our area, so it makes more sense to have storm Albert than storm Franklin as the first storm we see. A bit confusing though with different outlets using different names for the same storm.
Did the tree survive?
And now Gladys??!! Are you kidding me? We can’t buy a break lately.
You know they were having a laugh when making that list!
It’s more that we are just getting clobbered. Four storms in a row? And now ‘thundersnow’?! C’mon, cut us a break for heck’s sake.
