Evaluating some OTTBs as prospects for eventing

I’m comparing some OTTBs in hopes to find a potential eventer! Opinions?

Not so sure about this one… .http://www.canterusa.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9328%3Aupdate-11513-price-reduced-lexis-knockout&catid=58%3Apa-trainer-listings&Itemid=279

There are more of course, but I think I’ve already listed quite a few!

Just food for thought… Did you look at race records on Equibase? Sometimes there’s interesting info there that could lead you to ask different questions when considering each of these.

For example, Nordic Firestorm is said to have stopped and been eased up in his last race. Fortunate Run had 68 starts from 2009-current, that’s a lot of wear and tear potentially. Lexi’s Knockout had 45 starts from 2009-current.
Sometimes the records are a good read.

That said, I adore Nordic Firestorm’s face. Holy adorable! If only he also had stockings…

You also might want to make a few quick calls…some of those horse may already be sold…

Are you posting to solely learn to evaluate? - because several of these have been discovered/discussed here on multiple threads already and most people won’t spend the time to retype their replies. You should research a bit more, scroll back on all the thread pages and open all the OTTB threads - even just to read and learn the sage wisdoms of all the players here (some have some long memories  ), read all the horse critiques, buying tips etc. If you’re posting looking to buy - coughcough be warned if you dredge up a new listing that everyone else looking will see it too and many of them may be proximately closer and faster on the draw than you. Not to stop you from posting all the window shopping that we all enjoy!

I was worried about that too, but I’d appreciate the learning experience, but I am looking to buy also… thanks for the helpful hints! I did start looking at the other posts…they’ve been helpful!

Pay The Band caught my eye last week. Totally my type and I’m happy that he’s sold.

I like Nordic Firestorm, but he looks pretty short-backed. Since I’m someone who ADORES her saddle, I’d be worried it would go a little long on him. Fortunate Run looks like an easier saddle fit. I think Jailbreak Charlie has already had some interest on COTH, so you might want to search for those threads.

I was told last week when I picked up,Cotton Jailbreak,was,no,longer at track…

So what happened to the horse you posted about in this thread a couple of weeks ago? http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?420306-Learn-Eventing

I went to see most of these last week. Fortunate Run has large oscelletes. Jailbreak Charlie isn’t there anymore. Lexi is still there from what I understand. Pay the Band is sold.

I went to see one that I fell in love with but he is just too small for me, and I am very tall. His name is Fairview Heights, and he is at a farm just a few miles from Penn National. He is well put together, sound, let down, and just adorable! He is 15’3 but fine boned, very beautiful. He was alone in a barn just munching by himself, completely happy. If I knew someone looking that was more like 5’6 or smaller, I would recommend seeing him.

I saw Ghostrider and can tell you he has an exceptionally nice temperament.

BTW: If I hadn’t found one I was going to go check out My First Sip at Charlestown. Has anyone seen him?

I asked my CT connection to check out Sip…

Let me know if you get feedback on Sip, I love his look and watched his race replay and was impressed. Love the Saddlers Wells breeding too.
