Anyone have any providers they want to recommend? This would be for an event in California.
What kind of event and is there a sponsoring/accrediting organization?

Schooling show, not recognized.
have the barn check with their carrier as most liability policies can have riders that can be added to the policy for shows by the day … our horse club’s policy had five days included and we could purchase additional days
Our GMO uses Blue Bridle Insurance, in New Jersey. Cindy Anderson is our girl there and is excellent to work with.
You can get Event liability insurance for your schooling show from Hallmark Equine Insurance, including show set-up and take-down days.
I think a friend of mine who had a few shows at her barn could have 3 events without having to purchase an additional policy but I’m not 100% sure. If you’re renting out a facility then you’d definitely need a policy. Most equine insurers have policies which I assume are fairly standard across the board. I’ve been very happy with Hallmark for my horse policy.
Thanks all for your suggestions! This is for a show at a rented facility; they require being added as additional insured but when asked if they have a recommendation provider they said no.
I guess my main question was if you need to go to an equine specialist, or any regular event liability insurer could do it.
Our GMO uses Blue Bridle too.
My equestrian club joined our state’s Equine Council as an association member, and one of the benefits is the ability to obtain event insurance through them. The yearly membership fee plus the insurance cost for our events each year is less than we were paying for the insurance alone before. May be worth seeing if there is anything similar in your area.
Great American?
Did the facility you will be using for the show make a recommendation?
For a question like this, I would call a couple of reputable insurers and ask them to make a recommendation. They should honestly tell you the best direction to go. That would be far better than asking the internet. IMO.
Right, but I was hoping to get some recommendations on who the reputable insurers are.
As I said, the venue requires insurance but when asked said they didn’t have a specific recommendation. It turns out one of the providers I called (a small local outfit) said they do actually handle insurance for the venue itself.
And in case anyone looks back at this, I contacted Blue Bridle and they said they don’t cover California. I will get quotes from Hallmark and Great American to compare. Thank you everyone for the suggestions!
You are in CA. That will make the job more difficult.
All of the brokers noted so far have good reputations. One not noted is Markel. https://www.markelinsurance.com/commercial-equine I don’t make any money on referrals but they’ve quoted one time events a couple of times and they were reasonable in TN.
You note that your show is not “recognized.” If you can obtain recognition from a large organization might be able to secure coverage through them. Worth looking at.
Good luck in your search.
