Bless her heart.
Ooof. That’s tough.
She certainly did sustain a lot of injuries poor lady.
It’s a bummer to be injured like that and to not even be having fun when it happens.
From that article:
“Louise, who was briefly knocked unconscious, was airlifted to hospital where it was confirmed that she had sustained a fractured skull, ribs, shoulder blade, and some vertebrae. The following day she underwent spinal surgery.”
That’s crazy! I wonder how far the drop was off the trailer?
She may have landed on something that could account for some of the injuries. I don’t know.
She sounds like a very nice person, already trying to raise money for the charity helicopter service. Apparently she been airlifted before.
Shades of Jeremy Renner. Some everyday chores go wrong. Could happen to any of us!
That’s a good point. It sounds like injuries a person would get from falling off a roof
It was the broken ribs that made me wonder.
There’s lots of stuff around a barn that wouldn’t be good to land on, muck tubs, buckets etc…
You can fracture vertebrae simply falling on your butt. You can cause lumbar burst fractures by landing on your shoulders and your body folds at the waist. (Even if you land on padding used by pole vaulters!)
Don’t ever think there needs to be high speed or something else there to cause the injuries.
Yes, I see trauma spine cases a lot (which includes the head, neck, ribs).
From reading the description she likely landed on her shoulder on the ground and folded her cervical vertebrae. The thoracic verts driving the mass of her body directly through (rib fractures as the thoracic was forced to yield).
Sounds awful! I hope she heals quickly…I have had some stupid injuries around the farm over the years.
Subject worthy of it’s own thread!
My Personal Best was pulling a full wheelbarrow backwards across my frozen, rutted drylot & stepping into a hollow spot.
With enough force to make me think I broke something.
I had to support myself with the wheelbarrow to walk.
Just a badly bruised heel, causing me to have to tiptoe on that foot until it healed enough to not make me when I put weight on it.
For a full recovery for Louise!
