Eventer stepping short left fore

I have an eventer that after being saddled steps very short with the left fore when I walk it out of the stable. It is ok once I get on and walk for 30 seconds. Does anyone have experience with this? I am wondering if it is a minor hindgut gut issue that could be causing it?Also have a high level eventer that gets tight in the back when standing in the stable walk him for 30 seconds and the tightness seems to go. When being ridden he doesn’t like to stretch down and likes to poke his nose. Have spent plenty of money on vets trainers supplements and would be interested if others have similar experiences that they have found the answers for

Why would you think hind gut?

I’d look at shoulders girth saddle fit first if it’s a front leg problem

What happens if you do girth up loosely walk him out finish tightening slowly in arena? What happens if you stretch his front legs with your hands before you girth and before you do final tighten?

The first one sounds girthy. Try a girth with elastic on both ends, stretch his legs forward after you tack him, make sure the saddle isn’t too far forward, and don’t tighten it all the way at once but gradually as you walk him. All or some of these things should help.

The second horse sounds sore. Have the vet out or body worker of your choice.

I would investigate saddle fit.

This sounds fishy

I would suspect either saddle fit or even a lameness issue. When a horse tends to “work out” of some sort of lameness, I tend to think arthritis. Either way, a shorten stride is indication that something is going on, so maybe check with your vet!
