Eventing Barn in Raleigh NC Area?

Hi!

I wanted to check in to see if anyone could recommend an Eventing barn in NC (Raleigh area) for those of us who do not currently own our own horses. Plan to purchase a horse in a year or so, but miss training and really would like to get back into both training and competitions.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :o)

Thanks!

What level are you looking to ride/compete? I know of a lesson barn just outside Raleigh (7 miles east) that does eventing, but the trainer does not let you compete above beginner novice unless you own the horse.

I’ve been riding for many years, but have not competed much (funding wasn’t available as a kid), so would want to start at a lower level to build confidence.

Cassidy Sitton is in the east Raleigh area. Not sure what she has available for lessons or leasing, but I learned a lot riding with her–great confidence builder on XC. http://www.chorseeventing.com/home

Doug Payne just moved to his new barn right outside of Raleigh!!

Highly recommend Cassidy Sitton! She clinics when my friend Caroline comes down to Hidden Spring Farm-I think Doug is in New Hill…haven’t ridden with him but he is always very friendly when I volunteered at the CHP…

And if you don’t mind a short drive, there’s Jeannette Ford in Chapel Hill/Durham. She’s also amazing and just plain fun to be around.

I haven’t ridden with Jeanette, but have talked to her multiple times, very nice, very helpful, lots of fun.

Doug did just move to a new farm in Apex, if you have lots of money! There are also several smaller farms north of Raleigh – the Triangle’s a big place.

Annie Nienaber is also in Chapel Hill and has several students heading off to college and such this year, may have some great opportunities to lease a nice horse!

I highly suggest contacting Annie Nienaber (Breakthru on this forum) and Cassidy Sitton Reese. Annie’s operation is more towards CH area, and she’s an excellent teacher/gifted rider with alot of students (many lower-level eventers) who really like her. She may know of an opportunity for you. Cassidy is located more on the east side (NE of Raleigh), and although I don’t know her well, she seems to have a lot of students (many lower level eventers) who really like her. She may also know of opportunities for you. The more networking you do, the greater your opportunity of finding that good opportunity. Good luck!

Why do I always forget about Annie? Gah! She is awesome, patient, and has a really good eye.

I’ve never ridden with Cassidy so I can’t give any input from that angle, but I’ve known Cassidy for several years and she is awesome and her students do adore her. I know she does have access to lesson horses as she teaches out of a few barns, but I’m not sure which barns those would be and how close they may be to you.
