I’m moving to the South Bend area later this summer and through all my pals in Michigan and TEAM, I haven’t found any event barns in that area, but maybe??? Maybe there is a good place for an eventer to board? I need any and all recommendations. I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!!
I went to school at Notre Dame. I doubt you’re going to find many nearby strictly eventing barns. That area is primarily hunter jumper and pleasure riding. I think you’ll probably have to look either around Niles, Michigan or Elkhart or Bristol, IN.
I would suggest reaching out to the ND Equestrian team and asking them. I think they’ve recently (ish) moved barns and instructors, but they would probably be a good resource for barns and might be able to give you some insights on the riding scene. As I know when I was there some girls on the team kept their horses elsewhere.
Well, I’m the current ND Equestrian Team President/Co-Captain (for the next week until I graduate) and I brought my training level eventer with me to the barn where the team practices when I started my sophomore year at ND. It’s Lucky Horse Equestrian Center in Niles, MI. There is a wonderful dressage trainer who comes to the barn about once a month (more if you ask), and our coach is happy to work with jumpers as well as hunters. So while it’s definitely not an “eventing barn,” and I got a lot of “you’re insane” for doing canter sets in the front field as often as possible, they provide excellent care and it’s by far the best barn in the area in my (biased) opinion. I am Mishawaka which adjoins South Bend. There isn’t much here. For eventing stuff, I tend to drive down toward Indianapolis where there is a much larger eventing scene. I have my horses at home.
i have known a few people who boarded at Lucky Horse and were happy with the care.
