Eventing barns in North Jersey?

I was introduced to eventing last Summer, competed in two starter trials at the elementary level. I of course was hooked, and am looking to pursue it further this year.

I’m posting here to see if anyone knows of barns in Northern New Jersey with a focus on eventing. I’m aware of some of the big names in the area, but I’m curious to see if there are some other barns/instructors/trainers that I may not know of, that I’m overlooking.

Thanks for your help!

You probably already know of M. Payne, who is wonderful BTW. Also Sinead when she’s based in NJ, who is also wonderful.

Also check out where Maddie Blackman is near you. She is super up and coming.

Lastly check out where Sara Gumbiner is near you. She is fantastic. Not only a great and wonderful person but she’s really proving herself as an upper level event rider, has a very cool young horse she’s bringing up the levels and would be a fantastic option for you if she’s not too far. Good luck! Would highly recommend her. She’s has trained and worked for Boyd Martin for some time but is now out on her own. She’s wonderful!

I am aware of both Penwick Eventing and Sarah Stinneford Equestrian…

I am here to vouch for Sarah Stinneford (sarahstinneford.com). She is an excellent trainer and instructor with VERY fair rates and a wonderful teaching style. She puts the horses first and is always available for her clients. I am a very recent new client of hers and I can see myself staying with her as it is the nicest barn environment I’ve yet to encounter in NNJ (and I’ve been to quite a few places by now).

Please consider stopping by her place and chatting with her, she is very approachable and also very active on social media. I’d be happy to tell you more through PM’s if you’re interested.

Sarah G. is South Jersey, Mullica Hill area.

When I lived in the area I rode at Oxbow Stables in Hamburg. Great facility for me since they have school horses (I don’t have my own horse) as well as several onsite events each year, so big savings for me in not having to pay to trailer offsite to compete. http://oxbowstables.com

Where in northern NJ do you live? I can tell you a lot about the eventing community in that area. There are many options depending on whether you want to train a-la-carte, to be in training board, or to trailer in.
