Eventing barns near Austin/San Antonio??

Ok, people. You can suggest barns near Tulsa and in GA. Certainly SOMEONE knows a barn in central TX, even if it’s not right in Wimberley!!

Remember, I live in Lubbock now, and I’m used to driving 6-10 hours. I hoped that by staying in a more central location, folks would be able to suggest something, uh, a tiny bit closer? Like an hour or two?

So I’m trying again: can you suggest any eventing people/barns close to Austin/San Antonio/San Marcos?

Pretty please?

I won’t be too much help except offer the results of my search when it looked like I might move to San Antonio… I couldn’t find any eventing barns around town. Plenty of dressage and hj barns though that you can find through google and www.newhorse.com. Though because the move to SA fell through I didn’t complete the search… Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Good luck! Austin is a great town.

I grew up in San Antonio, riding with Diane Hanrahan, who runs South Star Stables. I believe she trains out of Double Diamond now. She regularly attends all of the Area V shows.

There’s also Spicewood Farms in Austin. I don’t know much about them except that they show up at Area V shows.

You also might want to check out the central texas eventing site.

Just out of curiousity, if you are in Lubbock, why are you looking all the way down in SA? That’s not really central Texas, it’s south Texas. It’s definitely further than Dallas for you…

ETA: Never mind, I see that you are looking at land down there. Now I understand.

Well,

There are several event Trainers in San Antonio:
Diane Hanrahan
Donna Kinney
Rick Urban
Lida McAllister

As far as Austin goes, there are a couple of trainers that have one or two lower level kids or AA’s going, but not much to speak of. My friends that live in Austin ride with trainers out of SA or Houston.

I can give you opinions by PM if you would like

If you are looking for a dressage coach or jumper lessons I can give you lots of names there too!!

Let me know exactly what you are looking for and I can give you #'s, websites, etc…

email Barb Whitmire. She’ll have good suggestions.
I think her email is on the central texas eventing assoc site.

OK so I live in New Braunfels (between SA & Austin on I-35)about 30 miles from Wimberley and I keep my horses at my mom’s place near Canyon Lake (off of 281).

As far as eventing trainers nearby you are pretty much SOL! Sheryl Lewis is wonderful but she is about 1 hour from Wimberley in Fair Oaks/Boerne area. Donna Kinney and Diane Hanrahan are also in the Boerne/Fair Oaks/Leon Springs area (off of I-10 Northwest of SA). I think Rick Urban is also over there but I am not sure. As far as eventers in Austin there is Anna Beason.

The San Antonio area is not a mecca of eventing but I am sure it is better than Lubbock :D.

Greenwood is about 4 or 4.5 hrs from Wimberley/Blanco
Holly Hill is about 8 or 9 hrs
MeadowCreek is 4hrs
Pine Hill is about 3 hrs
Tipasa (Feather Creek) is about 9 or so
Tyler is 6 or 6.5 hrs

So pretty much is all closer than Lubbock

I hope Wimberley is not as rocky as my moms place. If we could sell rocks for less than a penny we would rival Bill Gates :lol::lol:

Are you going to try and teach at Texas State (Eat 'Em Up CATS!!! I am an alumni :D:D:D)?? TX State is only 20 minutes from Wimberley.

When you come down, you can come over and we can ride at my moms. She got a lighted arena and a jump course (most of the jumps need to be repaired (they have dry-rotted :)) not to mention trails.

Yay, when are you looking at coming down?

THANKS, everyone!

We’re getting a house/well inspection next week, and if everything goes through ok, we’ll be land owners by 2010!

The place has a barn and a small turn out near Lone Man Creek (beautiful, absolutely beautiful). TONS of rocks on the hills, but down by the creek it’s actually quite nice!

IF we get the place, we’ll likely come for weekends, and live there much of the summer. I’ll probably be coming from Lubbock for most of my spring events, but heck, it’ll be nice to come from here SOMEDAY.

Anna Beeson, btw, is my hero. I want to be her when I grow up.

We’ll probably continue to teach at Texas Tech until the boys are done w/ HS…but then, who knows? We do a lot of online teacher, so we might stay there for a semester…or maybe we’ll move to this place and try to get jobs at TX State…several of our grad students work there now, so maybe they’ll hire us…!

And WHY

Did you not do this when we still lived there?! We could have had so much fun!!!

: )

We will be opening an eventing barn in Bulverde (just outside of San Antonio) soon. We are working with a consultant on our course design and construction. We plan to have a full cross country course as part of our facilities. More to come, as we are still working on getting the place up and running.
