I am relocating to the Northeast corner of Atlanta this spring for work. Any suggestions for local eventing barns? I think the biggest stress beside selling a house is going to be a new barn that I love as much as my current one. Access to trail riding a plus.
Thanks in advance!
Maybe I am being dense, but I can’t find a link to barns on that website. Am I blind?
You’re not blind–it’s a terrible website. You can find some barns in the members page here: http://gdcta.org/sample-page/member-links/
Look at overland farm in loganville. Very quiet adult only barn and the care is awesome. We’re also 5 minutes from Ashland where you can use a full XC course. The farm has a pasture set up with XC jumps and a lighted arena with jumps as well. We also have several great trainers who come to us.
What specific area will you be living in? Traffic is a bitch, and more of a bitch in certain areas.
What kind of environment/budget are you looking at?

Loganville is not exactly Northeast Atlanta.

Correct - however it is extremely affordable very good care and it is at least east. Plus it’s actually fairly accessible through all the traffic that is the big pitfall of Atlanta.
How loosely are you using the term “northeast Atlanta”? Do you mean within the city limits in Fulton County, or are you talking more Lawrenceville, Chateau Elan (Gwinnett County area)? Because there is a good eventing barn near Athens. I don’t know it personally but a good friend of mine has been to clinics there. I can get the name if Athens is not too far from you.
Try contacting the GDCTA itself:

Also try these tack shops. If they are anything like tack shops I know, they will know good barns.–
Hi. I moved northeast of ATL a year ago, and have found the traffic in this part of the world is a nightmare! If you’re going to be near Cornelia or Gainesville (up I-985), PM me for suggestions. I ended up finding a small, private barn with no other boarders and simply trailer to school and trail ride (we do have a ring and jump field, though). Gainesville has a few nice Dressage and Hunter barns, and Athens is likely too far out for you, but there are several nice farms down there with eventers. Good luck finding the right place!

And we miss you terribly in this neck of the woods.

And NE Atlanta up around 85/Lawrenceville may win some sort of award even for Atlanta traffic… <shudder> I think your only hope may be to find something points north of there, because going south or west is going to be one of Dante’s rings…
I am supposed to complete my training at the new job in Lawrenceville. After that I will either stay in Lawrenceville or move to Winder. I am dreading the traffic! It is so limiting.
I liked Overlands website but I was hoping to find a similar barn further north closer to Lawerencville/Winder
Lawrenceville, Duluth, Winder area. Looking for an adult barn with good care. Hoping to keep board under 500
Lawrenceville area then potentially out to Winder in 6 months or so. Hadn’t thought about the tack shops, good suggestion!
Talk to Tawn Edwards of Willow South Eventing in John’s Creek. Her barn does a lot of kids’ lessons, but don’t fear! Tawn is an amazing trainer who competes everywhere and knows everyone, and you would be in a small but not nonexistant group of adult riders. She doesn’t have trails but trailers out to places all the time.
A friend of mine, Candee Niss (who used to teach me at Willow South) also teaches, but doesn’t have a barn to board out of if my memory serves me right. She also teaches a lot of younger kids and beginners, but is very knowledgeable and a good teacher.

If neither of these work out, definitely talk to the women at Atlanta Saddlery. After years in Duluth, I’m fairly certain they know everything.

Atlanta saddlery is in Alpharetta.
This is a list of State licensed barns in GA.
Lawrenceville is in Gwinnett County.
Winder is in Barrow County.
Try Hall County too.

Barn found!
I found a barn! Thanks everyone for all your help. Would not have found it without you!
