@Denali6298 I can totally appreciate that.

You need to narrow your focus down to what you can do, shut out the social anxiety, and trust your coach.
No one succeeds in running a marathon if they suddenly have a panic attack half way through thinking that someone might think their shorts are the wrong color. Etc.
Young girls are socialized to be extremely socially competitive and anxious whereas boys get their competitiveness channeled into sports and other activities. Girls can end up being paralyzed by all the voices they have internalized.
People who are excellent riders have the capacity to shut out the rsilbirds and the what-ifs and ride the horse in the moment of now.
That however also requires getting rid of any desire to “prove yourself” or “show them” and just focus on the goal for its own sake.

That’s exceptionally insightful. Thanks for these words of wisdom.
Wait, if event dressage was different then straight dressage then top event riders WOULDN’T take lesson from top dressage trainers because they would be teaching them the wrong kind of dressage.
Besides which, of course in a sport that involves 3 different disciplines, it only makes sense to take lessons with a specialist. Top level event riders also take lessons with stadium jumping coaches. (Which is a bit different in terms of speed, etc. but the basic principles are the same).
Thank you…thank you for this post lol
People who want to be at the top go to ride with people at the top. That is exactly why top event riders ride with top dressage riders and show jumpers - so they can learn their craft. This is a non argument at this point. I can post a video of a young horse I am training and you will not be able to tell whether her future is to be in dressage or eventing. She is started the same, all the work to be done with her will be same if she were doing straight dressage or eventing.
Dressage is dressage.
Each horse is unique, but the discipline itself is the same. If you are seeing otherwise, then you need to get around more educated trainers/riders.
Dude, what is your problem. I have 0 clue who you are yet apparently you are aware of my posting style over the years? Maybe less stalking is needed.
No, race horses aren’t started the same way, because they aren’t dressage horses. An event horse is a dressage horse, who happens to do other things.
I know how Carl Hester starts his horses, spent 16 hours watching him coach and listening to him. He starts them the same way I do. The same way many educated eventers do too.
Seriously, enough with the rolleyes. I get you seriously hate me but your attitude gets you no where.
Plenty of dressage horses go hacking. Plenty of event horses are starting collection by going Prelim. But that statement in itself is incorrect. Some horses in dressage do not start collection until much later. Every horse is different.
This discussion was about dressage. Not training for XC or Stadium. Of course there is different training for an event horse for those phases, but this discussion is about the DRESSAGE portion of eventing. The DRESSAGE training is not different, or shouldn’t be.
I am well aware people do things different. I also think you are completely wrong, so that doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn. It just means I disagree with you.
