Eventing in Columbus, Ohio area

I saw a post on this from almost 10 years ago but I wanted to see what is around now. I am moving to the Columbus area for college and am bringing my horse with me. I’m looking for barns with eventing trainers in the area, does anyone know of any?

Following.

I am currently in Columbus for school was well and am struggling to find an eventing trainer. I haul about an hour and a half for dressage lessons, but I know there are some good dressage trainers within 30 minutes of Columbus.

Redtail Ridge has Ellie McPhail. She has been based in Florida for most of the year, but comes to Ohio about once a month for lessons so that could work for you.

I think Timber Run has eventers, but I am not sure of the trainer’s name of the top of my head. They could be a good place to start.

Madeline Bletzacker lives in Galena, off of the Polaris Parkway. You can check her USEA record. She does quite well and is a good instructor.

Those mentioned are really all that’s there. Not much in the way of eventing in Columbus, you’re moving to H/J and QH territory. I’ve never heard of Madeline.

Ellie is wonderful but in Florida most of the time (http://onealequestrian.com/facility/columbus-oh/).

Timber Run is a great place to board, I have a few friends that board there, but the instructors are a H/J instructor (Bev Newton) and a dressage instructor (Renee Peters). They get you your parts, not sure if they’ll actually attend an event with you though. Nice XC course, and down the street from RedTail - you can hack over when Ellie is in town. They usually host one or two event clinics each year.

Heritage Farm in Pataskala has a small popular and well-run schooling series in the summer. One day, three phases, or just do one, or pick two. (http://heritagefarmeventing.com/)

My personal favs for the individual pieces = Amy Rothe-Hietter (http://www.southwindstable.com/) for dressage; Jamie Mills (http://www.empressvalleyfarm.net/) for jumping.

Do you know of a way to get ahold of her? I’ve looked around some and the only info I find is her competition record.

At what level do you ride? Do you show? Do you need an upper level trainer or can you make do with a lower level trainer?

I do not need a very high level trainer. I currently show Beginner Novice abs hope to move up to Novice by the end of the year. However I will be going to school here for more than just this year and have been told my horse will likely be able to go Prelim in a few years and with proper training for her. We have found the German system works best for her.

Ellie O’Neal, at Redtail Ridge, when she’s in Johnstown, Kara Andrew www.foxcreekfarmeventing.com in Creston, ( might be too far for you) and others mentioned above. Best of Luck.

I believe my trainer goes that far sometimes. She;s fantastic
