Hey all! I grew up riding in Alpharetta, and after a few years on the west coast, I’m contemplating a move back in the next year or so. I’m curious what the eventing scene looks like on the east side of Atlanta? I competed at Training as a kid, but I definitely fall into the re-rider bucket and I’m just going BN right now. My aspiration is to compete at N/T, do clinics, and school. I don’t own a horse, but I’d love to do a lease and eventually buy something. Thank you for your help!
Take a peek at the GDCTA website. It’s a very active group! They have a lot of info on there and the calendar will give you a feel for the competition scene.
Also, Aiken is only 2-3 hours east of Atlanta (depending on where you start from). LOTS of competition choices; CTs, unrecognized (but very well run) HTs, recognized HTs; all at levels from below BN through I and occasionally A.
The East side of Atlanta is a large territory. In Alpharetta and Johns Creek area there is a very active eventing scene and probably more barns with lesson horses but boarding can be a bit more expensive and traffic terrible. Out on I-20 East you have Conyers, the horse park, and Ashland Farm which anchor the eventing in that area and again many boarding facilities and trainers. Go even further East to Athens and there is quite a strong eventing scene, lower cost of living and a super cool town but probably less job opportunities. Overall, I do think Atlanta and the surrounding areas are quite active with eventers and you are only a short drive from Tryon or Aiken!
Ashland is probably the first place I’d start. Athens has a robust scene but that can be a bit of a haul from Atlanta.
Thank you so much for these!! I’d imagine if I moved back, I’d live in the city or Decatur. I just love the east side so I’d prioritize that area first. Do y’all have a particular trainer that you love riding with in the Conyers/Convington area?
