Eventing saddle: Kieffer "Zugspitze"

Hi,
I am soon going to have a Kieffer “Zugspitze” monoflap on trial (for going on gallops and hacking cross-country, and for cavaletti work and some jumps) and wanted to ask for any thoughts, anecdotes etc. on this saddle. It will not be my primary saddle. I love the pictures I have seen!

Can’t wait to learn more. Thanks.

I had one a few years ago. I called it at “Time Capsule” saddle because it had never been on a horse – a tackstore had gone out of business and it sat for many years before the inventory was liquidated. Here’s my blog post about it. Eventually it stopped fitting my horse but it’s a nicely made saddle. I foxhunted in it. Mine even came with the leather liner for underneath it.

Bogie, that’s fascinating. What a thing of beauty!! The one that I am getting is definitely as worn as yours was unworn. Maybe a bit younger in age but older in wear… same style. Do you remember what kind of balance it had for the rider, how it felt?

Did you sell it?

I have one of those- it’s ancient (almost medieval  )! And very very well worn!
It’s fit every horse it’s ever been put on, but I’m not comfortable in it, so I use it as a backup/3rd saddle. Actually, I have it loaned to my BO so she can “learn to jump”

Do you have a picture of it?

It looks like the one @Bogie linked, down to the colour, except mine is much more beaten up :uhoh:

I had a Zugspitz dressage saddle. Loved it. It held up.to daily use and always looked good. It was a reddish brown.

It’s interesting when you look at old monoflap saddles they had no blocks in them. Now they all come with front and back blocks.

I found it to be quite balanced. I have very long femurs, so it took up my leg nicely. The only problem with it was the seat was hard as a rock.

Yes, I sold it. Eventually, it didn’t fit my TB any longer. Somewhere in my husband’s warehouse I have a second one, not quite as forward as this one. I go through a lot of saddles. Always something new to try :).
