Eventing Saddles for Foxhunting

Does anyone have experience with the Barnsby Xtreem or Amerigo Vega Monoflap eventing saddles for either foxhunting or eventing? I would like to get a lighter weight saddle than the Stubben Roxanne S I just sold. I tried the Jeffries Flyover but wasn’t happy with how much it wanted to slide back on my horse, even just walking on the flat (yes, I do use a breastplate). I am trying a Stubben Genesis CS, which doesn’t have as deep a seat as the Roxanne S (I do not like a deep seat), but, as all Stubbens, it feels so heavy! Suggestions are welcome.

I love the Amerigo Vega. Never tried the Barnby

I haven’t tried any of the above, but I LOVE my Albion K2!

i have an amerigo pinerolo monoflap that i event and foxhunt in. The vega seems a bit more soft in the seat than the pinerolo but is almost the same saddle, so I think it would be fine. I am very comfortable in the Amerigo, can hunt in it for hours and prefer it over my stubben. I have 2 horses, but my amerigo only fits one. I’m looking at getting the vega for my other horse since there is one available locally. I am like you and do not like deep seats. I am very secure in my monoflap and feel its saved my butt a few times too:lol::lol:!

Molly-that weight you feel is called quality and durability!

I foxhunted in my Passier Military II event saddle…it worked great.

I don’t care for the heavy saddles either. I have a light Pariani that I love and have loved for years. What size do you need, there’s one on ebay now.

Has anyone tried a Steubben Imperator? Everyone in the barn agrees it is one of the comfiest and most secure. I think it is considered an eventing saddle. It doesn’t feel heavy to me, but that may be because I am used to it.

The Imperators are great saddles. I use a Stubben Lorelei (which is the same saddle as the Imperator but has suede panels in the seat and skirt). You stick like glue to these…a great eventing saddle.

I outgrew my old Stubben Wotan, super nice saddle. Currently I have a Bates AP and a 24 year old Passier AP. The Bates is deep deated, soft leather and comfortable for the rider though I’m not a fan of the CAIR panels in it. The Passier is deep seated & has knee rolls that provide rider brakes when going down a steep hill or making a hard, fast turn. Funny you mention the weight- the Bates is lightweight while the Passier has, well, heft.

Trakehner… hmmmmm… I will have to look out for one of those. That sounds fabulous.

My budget requires I search hard for deals, though. However, I do LOVE an excuse to be on a quest!

I’ve got a Stubben (wish my keyboard did umlauts) AP that I figured must be about twenty-odd years old (we got it used at least fifteen years ago, probably more like seventeen) and it’s still my favorite saddle. Fortunately the new horse is built much like the old horse! And I did just notice this time–it has d-rings on the right-hand side. Deep-seated and comfortable, and it’s in amazing shape for as old as it is and as much as it’s been used.

I LOVE my Stubben Genesis with the Biomex seat for both hunting and eventing. It has the pebbled leather and the forward flap and puts me in a really good spot for both galloping and jumping. It is soft and comfortable and I don’t feel like it is heavy at all. My horse loves it too!

I’ve done a couple of hunts in a Barnsby Xtreem - it is divinely comfortable!

A popular hunting saddle in NZ is the Barnsby Mary King.

It’ll be a quest for either, the Passier Military II or the Stubben Loreley…both are like hens’ teeth to find.

I hunt and event in my Stubben Eidlweise. While I don’t tend to hunt offen due to lack of time, my trainer (whos a wipper in) hunts in her Eidleweise for HOURS and loves it. I have a Bates Capprilli that I love but sadly outgrew. I much prefer my Stubben though.
