I will say that I generally do agree with adding blood for UL eventers. That said…I’m tempted to try Diamant De Quidam on my Dutch/TB mare. I have a 5 year old out of her by Desir du Chateau who has turned out quite nice. But worried it will not be enough blood so may instead use him on a full TB event mare. I do really like Desir du Chateau (and he is 66%blood) but difficult to get frozen in the USA for him.

i also love Diacontinus but not enough blood for what you are looking for.

off topic but why not Quite Easy (since the other 2 you mentioned had QdR as sire or damsire) for your Dutch/TB mare? Goes well with blood, super athletic, consistently improves movement and scope, and is a popular choice for eventers right now. There is also Verdi who is also QdR x Landgraf and IMHO seems super underutilized…

Ah, there are so many good QdRs to choose from… I myself think there’s very little as good as a QdR horse, so I’m biased.

I like QE and have tried to breed to him too. I had a bad year and no mares caught. I just also really like the Diamant blood too. The seems to be a good nick with Diamant over a QdR mare. So I like the look of Diamant de Quidam. I think for UL eventing he will be best over a TB. He’s young but damn nice looking and certainly has the pedigree.

Desir du Chateau is by QdR with top French blood in the dam. I think with Diamant added in, you get more elasticity in the gaits/ maybe easier mind but obviously keep the jump. Many QdRs can be a bit difficult in contact and to ride. I think QE is an exception.

completely agree with you about some of the QdRs being a little bit harder - from my perspective, I’ve been really impressed with Beaulieu’s two QdR sons, Beaulieu Quissini & Coolman and cared for and rode several by them… but not sure if either are available anymore but their offspring were some of the easiest QdR horses.

i’ll have to add Diamant de Quidam to my list of horses to watch out for… I wasn’t aware of him before your post, thanks!

He’s only 4 but was champion of his licensing. There is also an older relative who stands in the US named Diamant de Revel. It seems to be a good cross. (He’s on my list too)

Yes Ms R I liked Diacontinus on a full TB. I tried to get one of my good TB mares into foal to him and think it would be an outstanding cross.

and I like getting that Contendro/Argentinus through the dam with Diarado

That was exactly what I thought, he’d likely be a great cross on a full TB.

Tatendrang and Tzigane are two that come to mind. I love the successful young eventing stallion Tatendrang. (long legs, fancy movement, stamps his get) and I love Tzigane as he is a beautiful talented boy that is proven sire of event horses and is back in the US.

FYI… Tzigane JUST got back to the states. He is available for breeding in the US for 2018. I know they are doing a breeding special on him if booked before Dec 15th. http://antarestrakehners.weebly.com/tzigane-pb.html

I just got a 2yo who is by Semper FIdelis who is by Tzigane. She has been super easy and is fancy! I know Taz has a lot of UL event horse babies. His owner, Kim, is super nice and easy to work with.
