Eventing stallions known for temperaments

Hi all,

I’m looking for a quality stallion to produce an upper level eventer with a good temperament. The mare is very quality, half Oldenburg half TB, well built, competed through intermediate before sustaining an injury. She’s quite light, has a great gallop and jump and good paces but hampered in the dressage by her nervousness. She’s rideable and trainable but always carries a fair bit of tension so I’m looking for a sire known for throwing laid back offspring. I know laid back and upper level eventer don’t always go together… but I’m going for amateur friendly over talented but crazy. Obviously I want stallions with all the other important qualities- good movers, good jumpers, and at least some TB blood- but most of them are advertised as throwing foals with great temperaments so I was hoping to find people with personal experiences! Currently Royaldik and Ramiro B are high on my list but I’m very open to other suggestions. Breed not terribly important as the mare is registered RPSI.

TIA!

AFR or Tatendrang come immediately to mind for mind & athleticism. Not sure if AFR has any frozen remaining but he does have a son that is of interest…

Rather Well is another TB I have had experience with his offspring having 100% reliable temperaments… And good movers.

Quite easy seems to throw good temperaments, but maybe not enough TB for your needs

Tatendrang Pb throws an excellent temperament!

Thank you for mentioning A Fine Romance, beowulf, certainly he is known for siring athletes with steady temperaments and great work ethics.
Not dull, by any means, but smart, kind and level headed.
He has two outstanding young sons, one is not going to the breeding shed yet, the other is starting his breeding career this year.
He is Darwin, a 4 yr old by A Fine Romance, dam is a Dutch warmblood by Emillion. Darwin has beautiful conformation, movement and jumping ability with an excellent temperament. - Stands in Ontario, and his owner, Iron Horse Equine, is a repro expert.

And like always I recommend Buddenbrock…one of the most proven Stallions I know…well known for very ridable offspring with amazing gaits…

Take a look at Worthy Opponent. He is a Hanoverian (also approved Oldenburg) that was bred to be a dressage horse, but evented to Advanced level. I have a coming 5yo mare by him out of an OTTB dam. She has a wonderful temperament, nice gaits, ammy friendly etc. I haven’t jumped her much yet, but her dressage is coming along nicely!

Just A Devil is a TB stallion that successfully evented to Training Level. His offspring are eventing nicely, including Advanced Level Lucky Devil, who is now being ridden by a kid. Lucky Devil’s dam is a Dutch/TB.

Others by this stallion are known for the ammy friendly dispositions, even being started undersaddle by a kid. https://sites.google.com/site/cedarb…rmva/stallions

I find Concerto Grosso and his offspring, very appealing!

He was in my trainer’s barn (I was a working student) as a 3-4 yo when he was first imported. He’s always been a love bug and EASY as a stallion. Not to mention gorgeous. I would definitely rate his temperament as excellent.

Thank everyone! Will take a look at all these. Manni01, is Buddenbrock still breeding? I can’t find any current information on him (stud fee, where to get semen, etc)…

Buddenbrock is still breeding - contact Aquafarms and Joe Pimental. The stallion is getting older and I think fresh is the only way to go (I might be wrong, but that’s what I believe I have heard). He’s such a nice proven stallion, if you have a good fertile mare, I think it’s worth contacting them and seeing what the possibilities are. Hopefully, he will make many more babies in North America before retiring!

I am getting ready to breed me Windfall mare to Tzigane. She is a pretty fiesty little thing, and I have heard wonderful things about Taz babies and about his temperament too. I am not exactly sure on his availability as I have frozen from an ATA stallion silent auction.

Navarone’s have awesome temperaments and he has at least one at the CCI3* and we bred one that did the young eventer series. He has quite a mix of bloodlines with him and tb blood. Goes well with the TB blood and 1/2 TB would be a good cross. Ammy’s love him. He is one of those multi talented horses that really stamps the temperament. He competed at 1.4m level before he went into dressage and went to Grand Prix. Now as an old guy he is still doing dressage and probably back out at PSG this year helping his rider get her medals.

Irish Sport Horses are still leaders for eventing. Jack of Hearts is ID x Selle Francais and is ridden by a junior rider http://www.treasurestateequestrian.com/jack-of-hearts.html

Flagmounts Freedom is another top IDSH/ISH and producing upper level horses http://www.leaningoaksstable.com/flagmounts-freedom.html
