Eventing Stallions

Eventing stallions known for refining the mare, improving canter & temperament? With high %TB? Any registries, frozen(good quality) or fresh. Thank you in advance!

What’s your definition of high% of TB? Goals for the foal?

It’s hard to offer meaningful suggestions without seeing the mare in question; her conformation would play a part in what people suggest. Some stallions complement specific builds, others don’t.

Just off the top of my head and in no particular order: TB stallion Saketini (100% blood), Trakehner stallion Tatendrang (48%), Oldenburg stallion Quiberon (70%), Trakehner stallion Kros (62%).

Hoping for over 50% TB, thank you for your suggestions! Goals for foal are upper level eventing. This mare competed intermediate level with ability for more, before she was injured.

This was my current list

Can you share her pedigree?

She looks a nice type, I like her expression and she has good bone. I would want a stallion known to improve the hindquarters of mares he’s bred to, and possibly lengthen neck. Having seen her photo, I would say of the stallions I mentioned above Tatendrang would likely suit her conformation best but there are other stallions out there. Was her injury related to a hind or her SI?

These are all very popular eventing stallions right now. If you go to the US EVENT breeders FB page, you should be able to search these stallions’ names and see videos or photos of their offspring. The below is just my opinion and therefore only anecdotal:

Future Hepsilon might not refine the way you think he would, but his pedigree suggests he would improve movement and jump. He is young still but very promising. I loved his sire, and his damline is incredible for sport.
Mighty Magic would not refine. I would have some reservations about him with your mare’s hind end.
Herald III would improve neck and hind end, but the mare’s movement comes through.
Duke of Hearts is very popular right now. I have not seen enough to confidently rate his ability to improve mares. He is being used on heavy and old fashioned ISHs. I wouldn’t call your mare old fashioned in the traditional sense.
Weston Justice was very correct and would refine, but seems the movement comes through the dam. He has been around a long time, see if you can find some offspring of his on FB.
Floraldik - I have no experience with him, he looks lovely. His dam produced Long Island Iced T…
Sandro Star - very proven, and I do like his offspring for correct movers. I don’t know if he can be called a stallion that improves temperament yet.

If you are looking for Heraldik genes, there is also Royaldik. He is not by Heraldik, but out of his full sister Herka. Another one to look at, to at least cross off your list if you think he doesn’t work, is H-Ekwador. He is on the low end for blood, but comes from a good jumping stamm and is clearly talented in dressage. If you haven’t yet, check out Future Sport Horse’s catalog since you’re interested in Future Hepsilon. They also stand Future Gravitas and Future Prophecy - both should interest serious event breeders.

@Kenzieb72 You have Future Hepsilon on your list. How about Future Prophesy? He is full TB, approved AES and with solid pedigree for eventing. Both at Future Sport Horses and available frozen.

Also check Murkas Gem, who is a clone of Gems Twist. He is proving popular with breeders here in the UK and he is very good looking - but only 15.2 if that is of concern.

British Eventing publish an annual list of leading sires that might be helpful.

Thank you both for your advice! Those are great suggestions I’ll have to look further into. What are you thoughts on Britannia Royal and Britannia’s Mail?

I bred my Trakehner/TB mare to Utopie. Filly is not quite one year old, but seems like she will be really nice. And is big for her age. I ride jumpers, but Utopie is a nice stallion you might want to consider for your eventing mare. Eurequine. Edgar, (stallion owner), is super professional and easy to deal with. Utopie is 56.4% TB.

Utopie is gorgeous, totally my type! Thank you for the suggestion. With his age, I wish he had more offspring eventing in the upper levels. However, I’m guessing that might just be because he is being bred mostly for jumpers

Also check this stallion out. Heraldik lines. Based in Ireland but is competing eventing currently. Stallion does have foals on the ground and more coming this year. Owned by a friend. She also has another stallion- but I will be the first to tell you I know very little about breeding ( even though family breeds sport horses) except can name good blood lines.

Wow, I love his breeding. Thank you! Do you know if they ship to USA?

There are more to explore, but those are some highlights that are eventing currently, have proven eventing record, and/or have produced UL eventers. If you’re looking for high % blood, I would look at Der Dante. His sire is Stravinksy xx. Feel free to message me if you’re interested in any of these boys.

Britannia Mail has taken junior rider Ellie Fredericks up to BE Advanced and FEI internationals. Good breeding for both horse and rider as Ellie has eventing genes from both sides! However, more seriously, the stallion has both proven ability and a really excellent temperament. His get is out and about eventing successfully, still at lower levels as they are young.

Britannia Royal doesn’t have the advantage of being with the Fredericks family. He hasn’t yet run Advanced and he has fewer foals on the ground.

I had a Duke of hearts colt this year out of a orestus (indoctro) mare who was the most beautiful foal I’ve ever seen. I have never seen a Duke of hearts that I didn’t like.

I have a Britannia Royal foal due in May. Will let you know how it turns out! (But probably too late to decide on a breeding for this year)

Yes, pretty sure they ship to the USA.

Utopie did not start his breeding career until after he retired for sport, (and more so once he moved to Eurequine) however, the small amount of offspring he did have from his early years in Holland were very successful in the upper levels of jumping. He is a very good stallion for us to have access to.
