I have a friend whose DD is interested in attending UGA next year and would like to ride on the eventing team. What are the cost involved with it? Also, to have her own horse there, what will they be looking at to board her horse somewhat near campus? DD may or may not have a car to drive to go to the barn.
Also, do the riders on the eventing team take lessons together or do they work with trainers on their own. DD will likely be riding at beginner novice/ novice as she is new to the sport.
Thanks for the info!!
The NCAA program? If the Eventing team is anything like the SJ team, they have more to chose from then they can take and other factors might come into who js accepted. Friends DD accepted a full ride s’ship on the SJ side, she was heavily recruited, impressive resume in Medals and Junior Jumpers.
Its a little different then the IHSA programs. Somebody else better versed in it can fill you in.
Some answers here… and some contact info which might be a good source for answers to UGA specific questions.

My impression is that where it exists, eventing is a club sport and not a national program on the order of NCEA or IHSA.
Yes, it is a club sport so you don’t try out. I was just trying to get some info for my friend as to the cost of participating, cost of boarding the horse and how to get lessons. Do most of the club members board at the same barn or are they at different barns? I am pretty sure there are some members of UGA eventing that are on the forums and I am hoping they might pass along the info!
Thanks!
Other ideas–a club sport should have a web page or maybe a facebook page, so you could contact members directly if you can find their page (maybe a search for “club sports” on the university’s web site). Also a club sport should also have a faculty or staff sponsor who might be able to direct you to club president or coach. Remember that feedback from student members may reflect their own experiences only, and they may not be aware of all options available (this coming from a retired club sport sponsor at another institution).
They have a Facebook page that would probably be a good source of information, or would at least provide a point of contact!
I would be interested to hear the details of what you find out!
