Slip and fall?
didn’t hear, just ‘something happened’ on the walk down.
i was jk
New Zealand and Germany will have three each in the top ten after dressage most likely. But with the conditions and the course, somehow that doesn’t bother me at all.
Gonna be a ding dong battle tomorrow.
Andrew Nicholson didn’t do his best test, so only two Kiwis near the top. Sandra Auffarth gives Germany 1, 4 and 5.
I have a sinking feeling that by the end of the day we’ll have a similar % of completions as endurance. I hope I’m wrong as we have an amazing group of riders and horses competing. As long as everyone is in 1 piece at the end of the day we can call WEG 2014 a shinning success

I suspect time penalties will be a huge factor in the scoring after XC.
We still have 12-15 hours for it to dry out! Can it not dry more? They havve dropped 2 fences. I am sure I am probably being a Pollyanna, but I am ever hopeful:)!
The commentator was saying that the last championship course this designer did the 2nd place team had 20pt and 3rd had 60pt

Fences 20 and 23 have been removed and course/time shortened.
What was the issue with the fences? (Sorry if it has been discussed already).

I don’t think its an issue with the fences but an issue with the footing tomorrow. I assume they took out the fences to make up for the difficult and energy sapping going they are expecting
All those damned skinnies! As someone has already pointed out, with skinnies the approach is so confined with no alternative (Unless one HAS an alternative) place for presenting that the ground is going to get deeper and deeper as the day goes on.
I think we should all start jingling now for the horses’ legs.
Wow, Sandra bested WFP in dressage!!!
U.S. Team goes into cross-country in 3rd place. Not too shabby!
1 - Germany - 116.9
2 - New Zealand - 125.5
3 - United States - 138.8
4 - France - 139.9
5 - Great Britain - 142.0
39.7 points seperating the entire field and only 12 points seperating the top 12.
Fingers crossed for safe cross country rides tomorrow!

What happened to Vittoria PANIZZON? I didn’t hear
She confirmed to H&H that Sally Bullen’s popular grey mare “didn’t feel right” in the warm-up.

Good for her looking out for her horse like that
Paul Tapner was quoted on H & H as saying he was in favor of removing the two fences because “the fitness requirement of this course was too hard.”
I wonder what he means by that. It could be taken one of two ways: Either the course as designed was too hard, or the course with the weather was too hard.
From Team NZ FB:
Andrew was very philosophical about his test. "It was good, it’s just that I made two big mistakes and at this level you can’t afford to make mistakes. I think his trot work was probably the best he has done and to be up with the leaders in that bit of it, he had to work very very hard. It just started to show in the canter work but at least he got over his mistakes each time and did things properly. He is a big horse to try to make look elegant and light. I think he was doing a very good job of it but it just went wrong in a few places.
On the XC: “It’s a very fair course, it’s very big but it’s very fair. It was a little unfortunate for us all and the organisers that the rain came along. It makes it quite demanding on the stamina side of things but it is the same for us all and we just want to get out there and do it.”
Being at the end of the field: “That’s the draw, you take it and you do what you can. Hopefully it won’t make any difference.”
On the changes made in the course: "They have taken one hill out which is a big help. The hill had quite a few soft patches in it which between that and being a hill…. Plus it has quite a sizey jump at the top with the owl hole and for a lot of nations, if the horses were tired, it could have been a difficult one to jump at the top of a hill in soft ground. One of the fences they have taken out was in a bit of a bog so I think it is a good thing they have taken it out.
On the first course walk, the cows were out on course and in the second course walk the cows were gone so I had presumed they had taken them in to milk. They have obviously milked them and put them back. (reporter explained the TV wanted them for background. We asked if he could still milk a cow). “No, I have given up miking cows, not even one like those out there.”
On the going: “Nereo has probably been in every going there is. He will know what he is here for.”
On the dressage judging: “The bits I have watched I thought they judged very, very well. I watched yesterday and I thought they were marking very fairly and today the ones I watched, I think they have been fair. When there has been a mistake they have marked you down, where you have done well, they have marked you up. They seem to have been consistent.”
Team environment: “They are a very good bunch of riders. They are very motivated, competitive and a good bunch.”
On the team placing: “I shouldn’t worry to much about the dressage scores.”
