This all depends on how the automatic payment was set up. If it was set up via ACH (using the account and routing number from a checking/savings account) then yes, you can request to block certain merchants by name without having to change or close your bank account. There will probably be a fee for a Stop Payment.
If the automatic payment was set up using a debit or credit card number then the only way to discontinue future charges is to block/cancel your current card and have a new one issued. It will have a new card#, expiration date, and CVV which is why you would be advised to update any other automatic withdrawals. The new card will be attached to your current line of credit so that doesnât need to change. While updating everything with a new card can be inconvenient, itâs much better than having to close and open checking/savings accounts.
Like wsmoak said above, there are âcard updaterâ services from the associations, but that is to update a service using the same card number with the new expiration date and CVV. If you get a whole new card# you wouldnât have to worry about that.

Iâm afraid it also works if you get a new card number on the same account, at least for Visa. Iâve seen it happen processing these updates at work. From Visaâs docsâŠ
The whole thing is set up to make sure recurring charges keep working, because usually youâd want that.
Unfortunately in the case that the merchant wonât stop the charges itâs a pain. At worst you can work with your issuer to charge it back every month and supply the documentation that youâve tried unsuccessfully to cancel. If a merchantâs chargeback rate gets too high, they risk losing their ability to accept cards, so they usually pay attention.
Read allllll the fine print in the merchantâs terms of service and make sure you follow it, for example I think Iâve read that Clip My Horse requires a 30 day advance notice to cancel, which is apparently usual in the country they are in.
Hi everyone. I am Brian Sabo, founder (and previous owner) of Eventing Training Online.
Firstly, I want to apologize for the lack of communication and financial inconvenience a few customers may have experienced in the past.
Early May, 2020, Eventing Training Online changed ownership and was rebranded to EventingTraining.com.
The lack of resources for ample customer support was one of several determining factors in changing ownership to a more qualified team of experts.
I am working closely with the new owners to ensure we take care of all outstanding requests.
Any customer who has sent in a cancellation request, can contact the new owners, and request a refund for the month they requested a cancellation. Please email support@eventingtraining.com if you feel you have been neglected or wrongly charged.
All current paying members were sent an email explaining the change in ownership, along with automatic enrollment to the new platform.
Additionally, the new owners have emailed all previous members of the website explaining the changes.
The new owners (and new brand: EventingTraining.com) are customer-centric and have world-class resources to attend to their fast-growing customer base.
We are confident in the new management and we can assure you that the experience will be top notch and we look forward to assisting them in ensuring a smooth and value-packed customer experience.
As the new owners of Eventing Training Online (now, EventingTraining.com), our mission is to bridge the gap between eventers and the worldâs greatest trainers.
We are grateful for the opportunity to work within this amazing community and hope to be an essential resource for eventers of all backgrounds and experience levels.

However, our customers will always be our number one priority.

A quick look on your website give like zero information about your company.
An actual address combined with chamber of commerce and VAT-numbers would make it look way more serious. Actually I am quite surprised any company that provides checkout modules would approve a website/company failing to provide these details to their website visitors.
