Don’t forget the ride this coming Saturday, Aug. 9, from Winterset ‘above’ Orlean.
Pam Davis (her husband is a partner at Piedmont Equine in Marshall – well-known and beloved vet) is hosting/leading.
I’ll take a slower non-jumping group.
Call me for directions/details.
The potluck after sounds like fun as well. Sure people can bring picnic food. What food is highly appreciated? I take it there would be a place to plug in a crockpot?
Dad just had a minor TIA/stroke so I don’t want to keep mom’s car out overnight, but I can bring something extra special if I’m day tripping.
No, no place for a crockpot, and, to be frank, no appreciation for ‘special.’ its just a chow-down and quick drink after riding. Special would go wholly under appreciated, if even noticed at all.
Sandwiches (small ones), chips, dip, veggies, cut fruit, cookies, a big basket of carrots for the horses - that sort of thing.

Finger foods mostly. Picture a folding table set up in a pasture near the vans and a lotta folks wanting to take their hot/sweaty horses home before it gets too hot! VERY casual! Sammie’s good! Fried chicken, brownies etc. We got a watermelon coming saturday! Mmmmm !!!
I am bringing the watermelon! Looking forward to another lovely ride with my baby dinosaur!
Superb day! Beautiful trails, and VAST IMPROVEMENT on a lot of the green horses (and not so green but out-of-practice horses) and I brought along a newbie rider, too!
She acted as steadying-influence on my three-year-old. She on Saint Remus, steady as a rock even when we kicked up yellow-jackets up a silly-steep hill.
We even practiced a bit of canter - with and without a group, and plenty of trot, both jog-trot (WateryGlen called it a ‘jig’, I believe) and a proper-trot.
Another ride is set Aug. 16 from master Gus Forbush’s Foxhall Farm at the opposite end of my road. Sadly I will not be there but Mr. HR on his handsome pinto and 2 other gents who ride out of my barn will be there in my stead to take waivers and set up the picnic (and to lead the hilltoppers’ group.)
I’m on for the 16th, HR I will be calling you about alternate arrangements for some 4 hoof drive transport  Or not so alternate - Go horsehubby HR! Sounds like a keeper.
Drat it - I can’t go on the 16th (8 am from Foxhall Farm at the opposite end of my road) but I’ve contracted good substitute hilltoppers’ leaders (and the farm owner/master will lead the jumping group.)
I wish I could be there. Looks like I am moving back to VA in the near future… Hope to be out there with y’all very soon again! I miss VA so much. It’s so dry here in CA no grass, all we have are scruffy coyotes LOL. There is a hunt however that meets in Temecula…hunts of course Coyotes. Haven’t hunted with them however…
Hope everyone is doing well.
I’m glad to hear you are moving back! I’d hoped you would.
Weellll, y’all know how this goes. My first horse contact suddenly couldn’t go, and referred me to another COTH contact. Whose sole suitable horse for me has, of course, pulled loose a shoe and the farrier isn’t available before Saturday. I will check out a third contact, but my family now has an afternoon birthday shindig scheduled in Stanton.
Y’all have had plans go like this. Whose thinking of coming this Saturday the 16th and who is coming the 23rd?
