Everybody's invited! Maybe we could try CotH Virginia get-together, redux ....

(Let’s try to make it a CotH pow-wow …?)

Ready for hunt season?
There’s still time!
The Old Dominion Hounds will host four August trail rides to help you prep for the 2014-2015 season that starts in just a few weeks.
All rides will split into jumping and non-jumping groups, will go at a walk-trot pace, and will include many opportunities to school your horse in a non-pressured environment.
Green horses and green riders are especially invited – please check in with the Ride Coordinator to be placed with an experienced “helper” to make sure your ride is a success.
Rides start at 8 a.m., last 2 hours, and are followed by a potluck lunch.
ODH will provide a cooler full of cold drinks – please bring a dish to share.

  1. Saturday, August 2. 8 a.m. from Houyhnhmn Farm near Hume. Bonnie Barr Briggs will lead “first flight”; Betsy Burke parker will lead “second flight.”
  2. Saturday, August 9. 8 a.m. from Winterset near Orlean. Pam Davis will lead “first flight”; Betsy Burke Parker will lead “second flight.”
  3. Saturday, August 16. 8 a.m. from Foxhall near Flint Hill. Gus Forbush will lead “first flight”; Betsy Burke Parker will lead “second flight.”
  4. Saturday, August 23. 8 a.m. from the kennels near Orlean. Dawn Colgan will lead “first flight”; Sarah Atkins will lead “second flight.”
Call (540) 364-2929 for information and directions.
    Find ODH on Facebook.
Call the Hunt Monitor at (540) 364-7457 for last-minute weather changes.

Gonna be there! wooo hooooo!

Tempting: I’ll actually be in Bridgewater for some of those. But even if it weren’t “BYOH”, my cantering muscles are completely out of shape. The Mahogany Bay Marshmallow isn’t sound enough under saddle for that.

WWaaaiiittttt!!!:D:D:D Upon reading more slowly, “August trail rides”…“Walk-trot pace”…

Count me in for the 16th or 23rd, if someone can help me arrange for a horse! That setup, I can do easily. I’d love to finally meet some COTHers!

HiH
Email WateryGlen and/or me for more details.
OMG - I read your location-line every time and think, how many horses are there in Haiti???! You can answer the question for us, once and for all!

HR - I’m drooling over your website. An email will definitely be coming…

You are going to love HR and WG! They are the best!

I’ll be the one on the "OMG she’s so fat and looks 11 mos pregnant!!) bay mare and I’ll be smiling!! And remember; it’s not polite to laugh!!!

Thanks to Hunter’s Rest, hubby and I will be there!!!

LetItBe

The get together is taking shape! Email sent.
I assume the dress code is cubbing turnout or something just short of that? No coats in the August heat if we aren’t cantering up a breeze?

Casanova Hunt has a similar ride starting this weekend in Catlett at Owl Run Farm! I am going!

Awesome! Wish I still lived in VA : (

How large are the flights generally? I’m interested but my horse doesn’t have much big-group experience.

I think HiH is coming on AUG. 16 – not this week (Aug. 2) or next (Aug. 9.)
Quite an important distinction …
HorsesInHaiti please chime in but you guys may not meet her unless you come on ALL the rides!
LetItBe – they’re coming on Aug. 2 ride if anyone has a hankerin’ to put a face to a username!
Beam Me Up – We’re likely to have 20 or so per group if the weather’s nice, maybe more.
BUT … I will ENSURE you get placed with a reasonable experienced helper-person to ride with so you don’t get in a bad position. Riding up front is actually MUCH better than in the back b/c you won’t get the ‘crack the whip’ effect, particularly important since we’ll be trotting a little bit on these rides. I will lead a slower second-field should it be necessary.

I just want a “pregnant looking mares” group that waddles around the countryside…not asking for much!!

Yes, it looks like August 16th will work best for me. I plan to come up Friday for the early start Saturday and be in the group that does some trotting.

Looking forward to it!

WG, too bad I can’t come down with Dune. He would be the pregnant looking gelding!

What a lovely trail ride it was! Looking forward to the next one.

Sounds like you have a full house - sorry I can’t make the trail rides. I’ll catch up with you guys during the season. Have fun!!

It was really nice meeting Hunter’s Rest and Wateryglen! We probably met and didn’t even know it Winding Down .

It was a really fun morning with super friendly people and nice horses and so glad we went out with you guys,

Let It Be !! Nice to meet you too! And I just adored Mr. Let it be’s big white horse! What a rock! I’d hunt him anyday! He was such a steady eddy when the rest of us were going sideways! We had some green horses have some issues moving off but after all settled it was wunnerful…until the startled turkeys & deer decided our group needed waking up! And then that anaconda bit my horse but honestly twasn’t nuthin’!! The lead horse’s rider came off and of course HE was also the tallest horse! ouch! Can’t blame a horse spooking at a pheasant flying right up in front of him. Then 20 secs later a deer ran right thru the group then while we were all laughing & collecting ourselves a turkey flew up in the front. Everybody laughed hard at all the wildlife! I mean goooood grief!! Good food and super nice folks, had a ball!
