Everyday fungus treatment

what do you use between fungus baths?

i have a new 11 year old gray mare and it seems the rain we have been having has caused her to have some skin funk

are you a fan of coat defense (works great but hard to apply evenly over all areas when shaking on), MTG (some horses are allergic and can’t use if they are going out in the sun), some sort of lotion like equiderma or hay what’s the blue stuff (can only imagine how much you need if treating a large surface area)

I don’t know the best solution but I just went on a little ingredient learning journey, in case it helps
.
Equiderma lotion has chlorahexedrine and something else antifungal. Hibiclens is also chlorahexedrine, and so is Hey Where’s That Blue Stuff. Microtek is Triclocarban. MTG has sulfur.
I think coat defense is mostly baking soda.

I heard that the best approach is to scrub with chlorhexidine (maybe weekly until crud is gone) and make sure you have appropriate contact time. Also make sure you towel or dry your horse’s legs (or wherever it is) after hosing.

i wonder if spraying chlorohexidine (diluted) would be just as effective … i think i’ve heard people do that

I don’t think diluted daily would work as well, tbh. But I could be wrong.

Been a while since I’ve had an issue, but washing with dandruff shampoo and athletes foot powder has always done the trick for me.

Coat Defense powder. Although I use it sparingly as I am not a billionaire.

Chlorhexidine is not something you should be applying on a regular basis over the long term. It’s harsh stuff.

Chlorhex and Chlorhex scrub.

And make sure you do all
Your brushes, pads, blankets, halters also

Check the diet. Around here adding copper and zinc often helps with that, extra Vitamin E, and sometimes a probiotic to encourage good bacteria growth.
