Exercise Jockey Jobs-please advise

Anyone have any suggestions to help me find work as an exercise jockey in Aiken SC? I do have previous experience, am local and an Event rider. About 5’1 and 115lbs. Would prefer to not just wander around the track/barn area. Done the usual online searches but please tell me if there is a website where jobs are posted that I am missing. Or, individuals you know are hiring. ANY help would be greatly appreciated as I am getting frustrated! I know this is the time of year barns are hiring but I can’ seem to find them :-).

Thanks!

If you don’t want to walk “wander around barns,” it’s going to be hard to find jobs. Most trainers aren’t online looking for riders, posting job ads, etc. My only suggestion is find someone local that knows a trainer down there for fall/winter, or just go to some barns and ask.

Ive worked for several different training outfits over the past…many…years, and no one looks for a rider online. Trainers want to SEE you, they want to see if you can ride. Unless you can get a recommendation from someone who knows a trainer who is looking, you have to do footwork. A lot of riding jobs are just being in the right place in the right time.

If you cant find riding jobs, you arent looking very hard.

I’d suggest the old fashioned way, walking around and wearing out shoe leather. Show up at dawn, helmet in hand. And, not trying to be unpleasant, but the job is exercise rider, not exercise jockey.

That was my first thought as well. If someone showed up at my barn using the term exercise jockey they would be shown the door. Not because I want to punish them for using the wrong terminology but because I would seriously doubt their experience and ability.
