Looking for recommendations for warm exercise or quarter sheets. My thin skinned, fine coated thoroughbred absolutely cannot stand being even slightly chilled. We will be riding outside so looking for warm clothes for him to wear that won’t flap in the wind.
Ideally warm, not staticky, and stays put with some wind and during canter work.
I have two different Rambo quarter sheets. Both fleece but neither staticky. I don’t tend to ride outside in the winter so have not used them in the wind, but I do jump in them and the tail straps keep them where they’re supposed to be.
This one https://www.horseware.com/en-us/rambo-competition-sheet-no-fill
is thicker and seems to be quite warm. I had it for my older TB mare who also didn’t like to be cold thankyouverymuch. It kept her butt toasty and she seemed to have few complaints.
This one https://www.horseware.com/en-us/rambo-waterproof-fleece-competition-sheet-no-fill is thinner and not quite as fleecy and soft. It goes on the pony who is Canadian and much more tolerant of the cold.
Back on track has a nice one.
I have the Amigo with fleece lining and also have one of the Newmarket (Rambo) Wool sheets. The Newmarkets are heavy. The Amigo is just the right amount of fill.
I like them fine but wish they wouldn’t shock the crap out of my horse every time I pull them off. The shocking offsets their utility imo, since my horses tend to take that personally. So I stopped using the quartersheets at all unless it was raining.
My Newmarket has to be at least 15 years old. The Amigo is probably 10. Both look brand new and have worn super well.
I have one like this too, but with Rambo branding (it’s old enough it might pre date the Amigo line entirely) and it’s been great. When I bought it I thought the lining was wool but it’s fleece. No issues with static.
Funny you should say that. Mine is quite old too. I thought it was Rambo not Amigo, but this looks just like what I have and it is the only thing on their website that looks like that.
So maybe mine is old enough that it was labelled Rambo too.
Oh, I remembered one complaint about the Amigo - it looks like a miniskirt on my horse:
That is the size 80. So if you have a wider set horse, it may not offer full coverage.
I have a really thick polar fleece, a wool, and the one linked. My horse prefers the one linked. It doesn’t blow around as much.

First, to not shock your horse when pulling stuff off in the winter, get your hand wet and touch them while you take things off.
Second, Back on Track makes a great quarter sheet that goes under the saddle.
I have been using the BOT a Smart Therapy (from SmartPak) exercise sheet to warm up the horses’ croup muscles. The problem is that the back ends sort of fly around in a stiff wind.
So I got a Shire’s wool (?) exercise sheet to go over it. The top exercise sheet is much heavier and does not blow around in a stiff wind.
Sometimes, like in summer time, my riding teacher looks at me like I am insane when I insist that the BOT or Smart Therapy exercise sheet needs to go on the horse. Currently I am riding a 30 + year old lesson horse and he does not care how hot it is, he NEEDS the BOT or Smart Therapy exercise sheet for the first 10 minutes or so or he takes FOREVER to warm up enough to give me a decent flat footed walk.
I only ride pretty elderly lesson horses now and ALL of them love the BOT or Smart Therapy exercise sheet since I bought my first one over a decade ago. The other exercise sheet goes on over it if it is bitter cold.
Is there a US thermatex vendor? The shipping is $100 on the UK site!
Thanks I think I’ll try the Rambo one
Oh yikes. Shipping went up. Used to be around 30.00 USD.
Go with the Rambo.
Smartpak has a Thermatex dupe: https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/smartpak-deluxe-quarter-sheet-26444
I have their cooler in this material and it’s really nice, if they’d had the quarter sheet when I was shopping for one I would have gotten it.
X2. This.
The fleece sheets are nice but I’m in Canada and they’re not warm enough. The BOT quarter sheet is thick, has a water resistant top and doesn’t flap around or static cling. Highly recommend if you are looking to keep him warm.
