Fabform Horse Trailers - anyone heard of 'em? Have one?

Anyone heard of, or own a ‘Fabform’ horse trailer?

Looks like they are quite inexpensive new for a basic 2 horse.

I’m not turning up any reviews or information on them, that isn’t dealer or manufacturer info.

Anybody own one? anyone know if they are any good?

I’m not seeing Thoro Bilt out there any more, is this just a re-name of Thoro Bilt?

Thanks!

Part of the reason that trailer is so inexpensive is because it is so short. I would not attempt to put any horse in a trailer that is only 6’1" tall!

I agree - way too short but in the details section it says 6’-10" - still too short for most horses. Ponies are fine but I wouldn’t want anything taller in it.

I’ve never heard of the brand but I’m in New England so maybe it’s basically a trailer that is only found in the northwest? Just based on the photos I’m not that impressed. There has to be a reason for the price being so low. I would really want someone who understands trailer construction to take a good hard look at it before I’d buy.

It does not look extremely different from the C&B Maverick, but I guess it’s 2" shorter inside

I have one and have had no issues with it. The price is low because it’s streamlined and minimal. No padding, no rubber mats on the interior walls. No hooks, no saddle rack, but it has a water basin that doubles as a saddle holder on the floor. Cheap sticker reflectors. That being said, all the of the latter can be added on your own in a custom way. I could not find a 2 horse slant for the life of me in the 5k range. Have to say for the same money you will only find one that is about 20 years old etc, and how much safer is that. Not much. I tore mine apart to inspect it. The wood doesn’t come sealed so I had to take it all out and seal it with a deck paint. It has an escape door, and a divider and a tiny tack room. I don’t really need a tack room, so I can remove the entire wall which makes is roomy. I only have to transport a 13.2 hh draft so this is perfect for me. I like that all the interior items can be removed to make it lighter and roomier. It’s quite nice for the price. When I look at the other trailers on the market I’m not really finding much else to justify the 10k pricing. They are for the most part the same frame. I did seal the steel frame on the bottom that wasn’t entirely sealed that well. Alkyd paint. I have the LBT model (not on the fabform website). Vision. You can find the company online if you search - it’s just a company that does horse trailers on the side so to speak - it is not their main thing. But they fabricate other industrial equipment (very large trailers) so are knowledgable; they just don’t seem to market their horse trailers much - they are just very basic and plain - a whopping 3 models are shown on their site. I think with the larger manufactures and brand names you’re paying a few thousand more just for the reputation or brand name and not much else. They don’t sell direct either. http://fabform.com

I worked for this company for 7 years…helped them get off the ground with documenting trailers and setting the pace on how fast trailers could be built…the horse trailers were a bad idea from the start …i was lead fabricator at the time when they decided to hire two peole that use to build another kind of horse trailer…one to build them and one to paint them…well wasnt long before those guys quit. I decided to step down from lead fabricator to focus on horse trailers because i was the only one capable of building one…it was a nightmare…nothing was documented and my personal oppinion was to shut it down but once the owners have an idea in there head they run with it till it brakes and unfortunately it did…it broke me…i didnt have the experience to build one fast enough so instead of lack of knowledge being reconized on all management levels it became my fault …i wasnt trying hard enough and torwards the end i was getting sick with the flu i thought…the horse trailers were sheeted with electro galvanized sheeting and i was welding on it…metal fume fever is what i was getting but i didnt know it at time and thought other things were going on…i asked my boss if i could go home to figure it out and see a doctor…i was told the orders for horse trailers was to high and i needed to stay working…familiy run buisness my a**…your only family until you dont do what they say…i was never offered my lead position back and i was let go cause i was no longer a fit…truth is i was no longer there ginnypig…horse trailers lasted another year after i was let go…they were built poorly and any and all feed back given on them on quality was sacrificed for quantity…do not buy one they are poorly built and a hazard on the road…the name vision is given for insurance puposes so that if anything happens it wont fall onto the name fabform…amazing that i can get a ticket from a camera for not stopping at a red light while making a right turn but a guy who doesnt know how to properly weld can build a huge deadly peace of metal to haul animals with and take it down the road at 65 mph…you wanted to know the truth?..thats the truth
