I know we are still about a month out, but Fair Hill first run of entries are in. Plantation is this upcoming weekend, so more will definitely be added after that.

As I am sure you all know, Fair Hill is hoping to have the improvements for the 5* completed for the 2020 running of the event, so this year’s will (should) be the last at its current location.

I was actually wondering about this, if they would still be hosting a 3*/4* at the current location and then the 5* at a separate facility? Or if the 3*/4* would not run anymore and it would just be the 5* at the new location?

We have our hotel booked for 2019 already, so excited and will also be sad because we love that location.

4* short will be the test event at the new facility in April 2020.

I was near where the new arenas will be in June and August, and there was a lot of earth moving going on at the turf track both times. It didn’t seem like a whole lot of progress in two months, but they are definitely moving lots of dirt around.

For what it’s worth the 5* will be known as the Maryland 5*… not sure if Fairhill will be incorporated somehow

That won’t be confusing at all considering there’s another venue called The Maryland Horse Trials (Loch Moy)

I’d be all about having the Maryland flag on everything though… I’m one of “those” people :lol:

Nope… just running the 3*-L and 5*-L in the Fall 2020. The 4*-L in the fall 2020 should be moving.

Bring bike or small car to get around. No motobikes allowed and it’s a far walk from everything to everything :lol:

Also you neverrrr know what MD weather will be. Last year it was FREEEZING, today it’s 90 degrees and humid.

What is the drive like from Philly airport to Fair Hill? there is a direct flight from Boston to Philly I can take. For Rolex I have flown into Cincinnati and driven down to Lexington.

Bring layers and waterproof footwear. Sometimes it’s nice fall weather and sometimes it’s freezing. I will probably wear my Dublin Huskers with warm socks and multiple layers on top. Last time I went I swear I lost 10 lbs from shivering because I wasn’t prepared.

Also a portable phone charger is really nice if you like taking photos of everything. My battery phone would die in a few hours out there without a portable charger.

Also does anyone know if they take credit cards when you buy tickets at the gate? Or is it cash only?

Thank you!! I am flying in so will have to hoof it everywhere. Shouldn’t be too bad with only 4 horses though! We just had 11 at StableView :eek: I plan to bring the entire contents of my closet from summer to winter clothes! Grabbed a pair of Dubarry knock offs as well.

I fail at multi-quote, but @skipollo thank you for that suggestion! I will throw two portable chargers in my bag just in case.

The rider I’m working for said it’s easy and 45 min. That’s where I’m flying into.

Philly is the closest major airport and is pretty much a straight shot down 95. But 45 min is a wee bit optimistic at most times of day. Doable at an off time, but reality makes it more like an hour or more to the grounds when there’s traffic.

You will hit one toll coming out of Delaware unless you get off and cut over sooner.
I am not going to be around for the weekend due to really poor timing of our 30th anniversary trip but am volunteering on Wednesday as a jog steward so I will get to see every horse up close and personal. I guess that is the next best thing to being there for the competition.

Get off at the Newark DE exit to avoid the toll. From there there are a few different ways to go and if you’re following GPS you’ll be fine. All routes are about the same time wise.

If you have time between the 4 horses, head over to the Saw Mill field to watch the YEH jump phases. There’s mimosas involved.

Lots of walking but there are also volunteers on golf carts and in vehicles to assist grooms with getting from stabling to the vet box for XC day.

Get the crab bisque.
