Fairfax Monoflap Saddle - anyone own or ridden in one? Need feedback

Would love some feedback on Fairfax monoflap dressage saddles. I’m looking for something with a deep comfortable seat, grippy leather that holds up well to wear & tear, exterior blocks that don’t hit me in the kneecaps, and versatile for several horses. The Fairfax Gareth monoflap and original monoflap seem like they might fit my criteria & budget.

I’m located in a state without good English tack shops and no saddle reps so I don’t have access to do many trials. I have ridden in a DK Freedom, which I like a lot, but don’t want the price tag or maintenance of a DK. They look similar in design.

Thanks in advance for any feedback! Much appreciated.

My saddle fitter is going to see if she can pick up this saddle for me to try in. If she is able to locate my size, I’ll try sometime next week. I’ll let you know how it goes! This is what she quickly said about it, “It is adjustable, it fits horses with withers much better than really round ones.”

I sell them. I find that people either really like it or hate it. I really would suggest not getting one without a trial. You do need to have a fairly straight leg to be comfortable in it. I also find people like myself with a bigger thigh tend to not like them. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions. thesaddlefits@gmail.com

I was actually talking to them last week and I am excited because the are bring out a new “Classic” line. I am waiting for more details about it.

I own the original monoflap. In terms of quality, it is quite a nice saddle and is very adjustable and easy to work on, so it was a good option for my young horse as he was growing and changing. My saddle fitter loved it for its fit and adjustability. I, however, never liked riding in it. The blocks were just not quite in the right position for my leg and I found it restrictive and never felt balanced in the saddle. For this reason, it is on consignment with my saddle fitter and I am riding in an Albion SLK Ultima, which I love.

Yes! Please let me know your thoughts if you get to take one for a ride. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the feedback! Sent you an email for more info.

I’ve not ridden in the Gareth model but have in the other one and liked it but not as much as the BC Vinici monoflap that I ride in. The twist felt slightly wider to me. I do like the available fitting options with the saddle.
