Whenever I log on to COTH I get the fake Chrome update screen.I think you have a problem.
I got it too, but only once (yesterday).
I got it as well, on Firefox. And only if you are browsing their Chronicle Headlines.

I have it on Edge, and Chrome, but only when I click on the GM Banned story. Actually, any time I click home to the COTH home page it’s happening.

I poked around and can’t get this to pop up. A screenshot might help the mods pin down whatever is happening? Can anyone post one?
Yesterday my antivirus gave me a warning that the site was infected with a virus… I can’t remember the name. I got the fake update screen as well. I hope no one fell for it.
I’m kind of glad I’m not the only one getting this. It’s hard to close the window when it happens. I checked my Chrome version independently, and then checked what the most recent version is. I’m close enough to up to date that Chrome isn’t prompting me to update it.
I ran a Windows Defender scan after the last time I got the message, and my laptop was clean.
I get it occasionally when I first open the forums site, before I log in. I think it’s been about four different times now, but it definitely doesn’t happen every time.

I ran Malwarebytes (the free version), and it isolated 12 issues on my computer. When I checked COTH (the home screen) the Chrome/Edge update are gone, but I still can’t get the headline stories to load.
Skydy- if you want to read the biggest story, Laurie McDowell has a link to another article (still infuriating) on her FB page McDowell Racing Stables is the name of it.

I still cannot load any COTH articles.
I probably can’t read it, as I am not a facebook member. I read the NYT version of George Morris’ situation and read about the new helmet regulations on the FEI site. Still, I’m interested in the COTH’s perspective.
I have sent PM to @Moderator 1 telling of the problem and that there is a discussion here. Hopefully we will get a nod, if not an explanation.

Has anyone else sent a PM to the Mod? Perhaps that would help. The last time the site was hacked it took COTH a long time to mention the issue. The fact that there is/was a virus that resulted in a fake screen on COTH over several browsers, seems like a big deal to me. Granted, I’m not terribly computer literate…
I sent an alert to the main office with a link to this thread. Thanks so much!

It stopped popping up after I ran the malware yesterday, but the Home page wouldn’t load, Now the popup is back again, but it’s not interfering with anything else on my computer, only on the COTH home page.
I don’t have Chrome, but got a spam email about updating Chrome, that I trashed permanently right away.
I wonder if you are all getting someone trying to hack?
Never update anything from a prompt, go to the web site, be sure you are there, some sites that come up on Google are fake and update thru there.
None of the articles load. Only the forum. Anyone else unable to load the articles?
I got the antivirus warning and the fake firefox screen. Went to chrome and got the fake chrome screen. Not seeing the screens anymore.
That what my computer does today. If I click on the Home COTH screen, or click on the articles, I get the Edge or Chrome fake update screen. I can read the forums just fine.
The tech folk have been looking into the problem. I don’t have any further info to give you, but they said the info you were all providing was helpful!
